The recent price drop is quite nice! Almost makes me think new version or upgrade soon?

I don't think it's a "drop" though. GC says it's a $600 rebate good through the end of the month. ?? Interested too because I'm thinking of upgrading, but I won't be ready before the end of april.

I just purchased an MPC4000 the other week for 1275, and that looks like a lot less of a deal now that the MPC5000 can be had for 2k. Sadly now that I discovered this forum, I see so much unhappiness about all the versions. Hopefully a new version could really put some of those issues behind.

If guys would just take their time and do a little home
Work before buying an mp, you could get some great
Deals on any new mpc's .right now DJ deals.com has the
5k (mpc5000) for $1984.00,you can do a price compareson
With guitar center and they will match the price/plus get
The $600 rebate. But you have ask gc to check the price
Using pricegrabber.com to compare prices with the other
Stores such as : audiomidi.com/ams.com/zZounds.com
Etc.

Fair enough, but doesn't GC only honor brick & mortar prices? I can't actually find the rebate anywhere, so it sounds like perhaps a covert price drop to match the market?

Off from whoever wants to use that rebate before purchase

With the current ecomonic climate gear just isn't moving the way they need it to so it's not about being competitve it's about revenue loss.
The current ROA is just not working and they can no longer afford to watch and wait for change.
I do some volunteer work in the school system and it's amazing how many kids are having to change schools because they lost their home or some one lost their job.
the effects are really starting to ripple.
Considering most gear is a want not a need people are just holding on to gear or waiting for a super deal even if they have the money.

I have actually seen XS8 not sell when the person only wanted like $1500 for a unit a few months old.

So there's a $600 rebate for the 5000? Would that make it $1399 then?

It's some tweaking stuff going on.
The $600 is suppose to bring the unit to the new price of $1999, but stores seem to being using different aspects on it.
Some still have the old price and say there is a rebate while other just give you the $1999 straight up.
Akai isn't giving clear info as well.
It looks like it maybe one of those cases where if a dealer sells it for the $1999 price Akai does some type of price adjustment for them.
Wheras if they do it the other way you have to do the rebate paperwork.

yeah, I just got off the phone with guitarcenter and they said NOPE. That the unit would have to be bought for the MSRP ($2599) for Akai to honor the rebate.

BUT! I checked out the rebate...you can read it here:

http://images.guitarcenter.com/download ... 817351.pdf

and it says NOTHING about how much the mpc had to have been sold for...so, would this actually work? Nowhere in the fine print is there a stipulation about price paid so.....
