DRUM MACHINE VS vinyl kits

who prefers what and why ?

I use whatever sounds best. my ears guide me.

vinyl:

it has recordings of actual drums being played by a drummer... try getting those shuffles and rolls on a drum machine.

it's a **** to bring all your drum machines when you want to do live stuff.

drum machine:

if you want to make an 80's sounding electro track or something... sometimes drum machines are better for that.

saves ram time if you are using a mpc60 or something.

Vinyl for most things; occasionally MP3s or CDs but nonetheless always using sounds I found and/or chopped on my own.

Synthetic sounds like 808 kicks and other vintage sounds are exceptions.

Sample packs are super lame and I have never used them.

for me its my creation in and out, like a journey man. You have to tuff the troop before you dine on the delight my friend!
the dig the musical experience, the creativity of using the wax and copping or trimming (i dig looping over asymmetrical chopping anyday!) the working it out and then blam a pre made drum kit... just like a banging cake with no topping! you dont get the whole flavor!!!

but drum machines are great for layering i think... but hey if you have it use it!
i dont do music for money or props so it all about my enjoyment and praise to The Most High with what i see fit...

either or... but i will say the deeper you dig the more you will go for wax over everything else!

i hate kits for the basic percussion i.e. - kicks and snares

i'll use some little hi hat if i can't find a decent one already in the break. or whatever other little random sounds.

but it's all about breaks to me

have never used a drum machine but i wouldn't mind experimenting with one for layering.

man I use everything kits, vinyl, tape, cds, mp3, sound modules, keyboards i even sample from online video sites.
But it dont matter what you use, its how you use it.

vinyl kits? don't know about THAT, but i LOVE actual vinyl. Some things u just cant find in the library, f'real. I like drum machines for layering tho. It's all on u tho. There's no right or wrong way to do it.

i definitely like breaks alot more than "library" drums, but i have my folder of one shots ive been collecting for years from various sources. I use those for almost all of my beats...

i like stuff from my proteus2000, i prefer single shots to breaks cuz you get more expression freedom..you can chop up a break, but you still get high hats other sounds that you can't really get rid of..

either way its dope..but i personally prefer sampling drum machines/modules
