mpc & cubase syncing

I was mixing down a song and recording individual tracks from the mpc into cubase.

and I had a hard time keeping the mpc in the same bar count as cubase. I was using preroll for 1 bar, and the mpc sequence had an 8 bar loop. I managed to fiddle around with the locator bar starting position and I got what I needed.

BUT, are there any settings I should be using so I don't have to fiddle around so much to get the right sequence start?

song mode with song position pointer on.

yah, I tried it.. by pressing play, and having it all sync'd up, then pressing record, but the bar count is off.

if I set the left locator at the beginning of bar 1 with 1 bar preroll, I'll hit record and the the mpc will start playing bar 3 when it's bar 1 in cubase.

yeah, and slave the MPC to the computers midi clock or time code. set the bpm to match, and in song mode insert a sequence that is blank or has a muted bullshit track in it with the same bar count and bpm as your main sequences. Let it record that and forget all that preroll.

Man, I am having some issues with Nuendo now cuz I can't figure out how to have it receive on separate midi channels at once, it just lets you do the selected track. Arrgh! Im thinking about switching to logic dammit!

I remember seeing "record multiple tracks" in the options section of cubase ( or something to that effect).

I've never had to use it, but it sounds like something you'd need to record multiple channels, be it audio or midi. is there something like that in Nuendo?

I had the same thing in Cubase sx. It was easy in earlier Cubase versions, but they took the function out. You can still do it though, but it's a bit of work to set up. You only have to do it once though.
I'm assuming it's the same for Nuendo as they're both made by Steinberg.
You have to mess with something called "input transform".
On the track inspector, there's a tiny little button that looks a bit like a crooked arrow. Press that and a window should pop up that you can use to filter midi notes. The trick is that filter all the notes out on each miditrack, exept for the one equal to your midichannel. Here's how i set it up.

- Click the button in the inspector of midi track 01
- In the box that appears, in the top window, choose "add line"
- right click blue text line under"filter target", and choose "channel".
- right click "condition", and choose "unequal"
- Under "parameter 1", choose the midi channel for the track you are setting up. In this case miditrack 01, so pick 1.
- at the bottom of this window is "active module" check off "1"
- change the drop down menu for "mode" to "filter", rather than transform.
- Close window.
-Add another midichannel to the main page. Midi 02.
- Repeat the above, but change "parameter" to 2.
Continue like this for as many channels you need.
Trk 1 - filter midi channels not equal to ch1
Trk 2 - filter midi channels not equal to ch2
Trk 3 - filter midi channels not equal to ch3 and so on

Hope it works in Nuendo too. Search the help file for transform if you can't find it.

p.s. It took me 17 hours to figure this out.

yeah autopinch within cubase.....

slave cubase then add about 1-2blank bars---when youre in song mode you would have to add the same amount of blank sequence
autopunch in bar 2(at the very end of blank bar)

make sure its synced up then click play on your mpc thats it baboom everything is synced and cubase would start recording at autopunch in!!

when you auto punch you dont need to play record.... just click play on your mpc(MASTER) and it will auto record at punch in....


oh and if you autopunch in at at the very first bar, auto punch wont work. I dont know why but it doesnt work on mine so what you got to do is auto punch in second bar then add 1bar blank sequence in your mpc. press play on mpc and watch cubase autorecord at punch in

ieism, I got sx 1 from a friend and I saw that input transform and figured that's how to do it. Thanks for the step by step, I'll do it tonite, you saved me a lot of time bro, I owe you one.

multirecord in Nuendo is different than in cubase, you need to go to the vst inputs screen then hit the button for every audio input you will use. Default is just a stereo pair in.

then you go to your mixer screen and above each input click a channel for a 4 in soundcard it's input 1 L for channel 1, input 1 R for chan 2, input 2 L for chan 3, and input 2R for chan 4, then just do it to the whole mixer and save it as a template, any new audio tracks you add will be set up automatically.

then just hit the R button in the channels you are recording (in the mixer or the main screen track view).

As for me, it looks like I'm going SX from now on, version 1 since I'm on 98 SE.

sx 1 is working well on 98 so far.
