So im in the market for a new mp-cizzle. And ive been researching and researching. So far as i understand, the 4000 is the only one to offer an INTEL processor and Phantom power?. and they stopped making it. BOOO!!! now im aware of the buggy os n such, so heres my questions. What model processor? Is it upgradeable? and my main question, Why oh why would they include pre-amped xlr jacks if the thing aint meant to do vocals? thats a head scratcher right there.
heres some sub-questions
How buggy is the os vs mpc 1k 2.11?
96 khz/24 bit output or just sampling?
how different of an interface vs. 1k akai jjos v.1 4.99?
what do i gain and what do i lose with this machine vs 1k w/ jjos v.1 4.99?
Is the 8-out still available?
Does it allow usb interfacing or just data storage?
will it read .pgm files from other mpc's?
main data storage is hard drive, but is there other options? cf reader maybe?
expected lifespan?
hard drive recommendations?
independent (non-akai) operating systems available?
and finally, what is the phantom output(how many volts)?
the main questions is what i need to know, cuz i think i can cop one at 1300, and ide much rather do this than an mv. Just dont like the bare-skin pads, ya know?
Anyway much love guys, great f-ing forum.

wow, that's new to me... I didn't know the 4k had phantom power.

I dont think it would be compared t the 1k... the machines are not quite the same thing or even aimed at the same people.

not sure but as far as I know there arent rreal any bugs that will hinder your working with this this as far as I know maybe some Sysex stuff but those are hard to come by.
Tapuno wrote:96 khz/24 bit output or just sampling?

think about that question for a moment
Tapuno wrote:how different of an interface vs. 1k akai jjos v.1 4.99?

Tapuno wrote:what do i gain and what do i lose with this machine vs 1k w/ jjos v.1 4.99?

youd do better by asking us about features you like on the 1k with or w/o the JJos and if the 4k has something like it

The MPC doesn't have phantom, you lunatic

The only phantoms round here are the ghosts inside your brain.

They got confused reading about the Pre-amps on the input... which is meant for turntables.

well thanks alot guys, seriously. The phantom thing had me goin nutty in my pants area, but it was a hoax, like Jennifer Love Hewitts boobs. I understand now. I think imma cop that white one i saw at my local gee-tar center for 1300. i'de really prefer this to the mv, seeing as it has an independent processor. The vocals thing is easily taken care of. But umm.....i know im gon sound stupid... has anyone tried to replace the Strong ARM cpu with an Intel Atom?? you gain about 512 megs processing speed. And if i remember correctly, the chip bay is compatible. Just a thaught.

the CPU is integrated to the motherboard... good luck crow-barring it off.

No it doesn't, it stands for the signal level.
Are you on crack?

feline, your like an alcoholic stepfather that isn't abusive. Don't get me wrong, your there and really helpful, but also down right nasty. P.S. I also support you re-writing the users guide for the 4k.

since this is the loony thread, did anyone have any luck replacing or just entirely removing/disabling the noisy fan? I'm talking about the far back fan, at the left.
