Recommend me a Mixer

I dont know anything about mixers. I was Getting at Binger about them and he said I should get a 12channel. I know its gonna cost some chips but at the same time I aint trying to take out a loan for one. I know the 1k only has 4outs. I plan to hook up a Turntable up soon and I will be adding monitor speaking this week. Hit yea boy with some Brands and Model numbers.

Mackie VLZ are nice.

It depends if you want a digital or analog mixer.
I got my eye on the Yamaha 01X digital mixer.
As for analog, I'd go for a Yamaha MG16-6FX, Spirit Soundcraft E-12, any of the Behringer Euroracks or like agod mentioned... a Mackie.

Stay away from behringer.

They suck big time.

Damn, now you tell me, I've only had a Behringer 12-channel for about 5 years now, and it's still working quietly.

I know there are objections to Behringer stuff, including allegations that they ripped off Mackie designs, or that they allegedly use Chinese slave labor to build them. And they're German - don't mention the War.

I also have not been impressed by some of their stuff I tried, esp. the VAmp, but a quiet mixer is well within their capabilities, and the new VVerb is getting rave reviews, even from people who have blasted them in the past (e.g. UK mag Sound On Sound ). Just trust your ears if you get a chance to audition one, IMHO.

yeah behringer get some bad stick, some of it unfairly - but they have earnt it with some poor (but cheap) kit.

i use a spirit folio racpac, which is pretty flexible and has lovely sweepable mids. my girlfriend has a mackie 1402 VLZ and the sound quality is very, very sweet - noticibly better than the spirit, but it only 2 bus (4 bus is preety important if you're recording audio into your PC) and has started breaking... a lot of the channel insert points are VERY sticky, to the point i have busted leads trying to get them out... and now some of them have stopped working.

also MPC 1k has 6 outs.... main stereo out and then 4 auxillary outputs.

...and also with most mixers (well, analogue ones at any rate - dunno about digi) you won't be able to connect a record deck to it without putting it through some sort of pre-amp 1st.

But whatever you decide, remember that every A/D and D/A stage is a potential loss of sound quality, so have as few conversions as possible in the chain.

I wouldn't want my sound going like this:
Source -> A/D (digital mixer) -> D/A (mixer out) -> A/D (MPC in) -> Sample -> D/A (MPC out) -> A/D (digital mixer in) -> D/A (mixer out) -> A/D (PC soundcard) -> CD -> D/A (CD player) -> Amp & Speakers

That shit just confussed the **** out of me! I plan to spend about $400 maybe 500. I dont know shit about mixers so I knew this would be the place to come since we are all using the 1k. All I have right now is the 1k, I plan to add Monitors by the middle of next week and a TurnTable and maybe a oxygen8 by the middle of next month.

No mixer is specific to the 1k, so you might find better info other than this forum. What you need in a mixer, however, depends on how you will use it. Live on stage? In the studio only? To also interface with a PC or MAC?

The only thing specific to a certain mixer is how clear it's sound is, how many channels it has, how many busses, and what bells & whistles are packed into the same box.

You can get almost any mixer to work with the MPC. It's just all the other bells & whistles that can come with a mixer: digital mixers are only worthwhile if you have other gear that can use the digital outs. However, some mixers also act as an interface to the PC, so you get 2-for-1 for your $500, if you plan on getting your sounds into the PC for mix-down, creating CDs, etc.

I'm only going to use it in Studio.
