Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

ok so i have had this thing about a month or so now, with absolutely no problems, however tonight i was making a beat i sampled from my yamaha dgx 220 through its phone jack, so it was mono and i went thru the pc to make it stereo, anyways everything is running smooth so far and then all of a sudden wen im in song mode an all my sequences are assigned where i want them, and how i want them etc.. then i listen back to my sequence after converting the song into one sequence and it plays the intro then after that its 96 beats of silence!!!!! wtf!!!!! god its really irking me terribly i had to back up the entire project i was working on and now its currently on ice... but the question from me to yall is do you think i did something wrong while in the process of makin a beat or is it the mpc? i dont know because i loaded another project and it worked just fine, the only problem remained when i reverted back to my most recent project any help is much appreciated. thank you in advance for taking your time to read this.
peace

Well.. let's face it the mpc500 OS is pretty buggy. I had countless bugs in song mode. Just save often. :) What I don't get is, why you ran your whatever it was through your pc.. If it's mono, it won't get any more stereo no matter where you run it trough. Why don't you just plug it into L-input and change the recording mode to mono? Saves sample memory too.. This didn't answere your question though, sorry. :)

well what happened was its like this little pop that occurs in everything when i record it so i cf card it to the pc to fix it usually i will just edit it out in adobe audition and send it back to the mpc cleaned up. but this time its like when i did it and i know all my sequences play out their sequences, but once i convert them into a song and then the song is its own sequence it just plays the first 4 bars and the rest is silence.

do you think it is because of the way i used the yamaha?
it's really annoying the hell out of me

I bet your'e even faster cutting that pop out of your sample with your 500 than with your computer.. Check out the trim-mode if you havent and force yourself to use it as much as possible cuz when you learn it properly it's the shit! Really! And i'm 99,99% sure it's NOT the way you use your yamaha.. The bugs i had were not that serious (repeating same sequence over and over again and so on) Try to reproduce that bug -if it was one- (do exactly the same things) and post it here. And if it doesn't occour again your problemo's solved. :)

i'll give it a shot thanks for the help.

cuz man this beat i am makin is somethin serious. and it kills me to not be able to finish it.

i mean i have it backed up and everything, i know it must be some error within the beat itself, i was playing with the time correct thing because i was getting tired of having the slightest little pause in my drums while in sequence. so i toyed with the time correction for a while and i changed in and out of it turning the quantize on and off in certain sequences, had all my tracks set 7 tracks 7 sequences, that's how i had it. and then it just plays 4 bars and is silence in the rest, all my sequences are playing when i go to each individual sequence i just need to know what mistake i made in messing around with it so i can fix it and finish this beat. because the rest of my song should not be silenced!!!!!! lol god this is stupid i swear to god i have never had this problem before it's an unprecedented annoyance.

Hard to tell what your doing or not doing... I can bet it's a operator issue your having more than likely...not so "unprecedented" as you may think... I'll take a stab at it though... sounds like you don't have your sequence set to 4 bars if your hearing silence at the end...maybe you have it on 7? lol... impossible to diagnose because you haven't specified exactly what you've done within the settings. Seriously though I wouldn't go call it bugs if your still going uphill on the learning curve.

nah you got me wrong, i have been past the learning curve for a while now,(and as far as setting my bars i usually keep it in the 4 bar range but i sometimes occasionally change it up maybe 8 maybe 16, but not the case here i used 4 bars) this is just something that randomly came out the blue, i never called it a bug i just don't know exactly why it has happened as i have made many beats on the mpc500 and all of a sudden it just went wacko on this one project of mine, but i started a new project and the beat came out fine. i'll probably end up doing the one that the mpc500 lamed me on again. i will let you know when i figure out what the problem was
thanks for the help though
much appreciated

I know the Time Correction feature like the back of my hand... If it's in my head I can set it in seconds without having to "toy with it for a while" Sorry if I assumed you were still uphill on the learning curve.

No offense but this thread inspired my latest photo shop pic

Don't bother man.. HE's an idiot. he forgot to add that stage inbetween the getting eazier and learning.. I made it my personal issue to solve this problem now, dude! :) First of all get the newest update of the OS if you haven't already (v3.1), check the repeat times of the sequences in song mode, does the song play out fine if you play it in sequence mode (turning the datawheel to change a sequence)? If nothing works out but the song playes fine in sequence mode you have to record it just like that.. I can't believe it's about the way you made the beat. Just try to determine the actual problem by getting closer to it's core. For example if the song playes fine in sequence mode the problem has to be in song mode etc..

This site is about building peeps up...It's built me up to the a-hole I am

You need to run down the specific settings your using in whatever features in order for someone on here to even begin to be able to help you... If you can do that in more detail I'd be glad to troubleshoot with you...

The graphic was just me being me... I'd send that to my best friend and watch him laugh his ass off... you can get plenty of help here on this forum you just gotta ask the right questions and provide the right details bro... grow some skin man, it really wasn't that personal...I said "no offense" so pull yaself up and run some details on what the hell your doin and see if me or someone can really help you! Thanks for checkin my beats too...Peace

all good bro.

im guessing it has to be a problem within the song mode because everything plays out fine in their sequences.

but in all actuality i will just re do the whole beat and add to it. because i just made a new beat today and it came out perfect. so i am happy with that. also i see what happens to everyone else when they get newer os's in their machines

man im leavin shit alone lol im not even gonna ruin my little beast. lol
thanks for the help tho
much appreciated

I think anybody on this forum will tell you your better off updating to the latest O.S. and you know what? There right! Do it, trust me it's a major improvement to the older O.S.
