what is that noise on the mpc is it a fan or the hardrive?
and is replacing the hardrive with a scsi to ide adapter a solution ?with a 32 gig cf card?

you don't need an adapter.

there are both scsi and ide connectors inside

you can shut the HD off via the no-spin command ...if memory is not failing me I think its under load rather than save.. I remeber some dude here on the forum proudly putting the effort into ripping out the HD just after the OS with that feature came out ...a real kodac moment ..

and there was talk about replaceing the fan inside awhile ago with a super quiet one, a very goovy idea!.. did that happen? ..

Yeah, if you can afford a goos sized solid state drive.. would be fast and quiet. also the silent fans are a bit more expensive but worth it!

in the EIII the fan is only for cooling the HD.

So if you got a flash HD inside the mpc you don t need a fan anymore?...

I replaced the original fan in my White 2002-edition MPC4000 with a silent one.
I nearly electrocuted myself in the process and had to use a hacksaw to get some of the screws off
but it was worth it in the end.

Two things to consider.

The fans got quieter in the later Blue MPC's so ask VST is they have a quieter fan available.

With the price of CF cards and the avialable size no real need to hack up your MPC when you can just get a USB card reader and go with CF cards.

You can do some many variations of media because of the on the 4k that modifying the internals is a waste.

Make sure all the screws inside the MPC and around the pads (the pretty silver ones on the face plate) are tight. They can allow vibrations that become pretty audible.

get a regular IDE or SATA drive with adapter, they're real inexpensive now days...most of those cheap solid state drives are fast at read but slow at write, besides GB per $ is def not worth it at this point. Im pretty positive mpc would not benefit from a SSD as far as speed is concerned anyway.

I gotta replace the stock maxtor inside my 4000 too, that shit is louder than my full tower PC.

What makes you think changing the drive type is going to change the write speed of the MPC?
That's not the speed controlling factor, the MPC is.
Unless you can only find a SATA then it no advantange to using one.

No need for a highly priced VST fan here. You can use a standard 60mm fan, but will probably
have to solder the original fan's connector to the new one.

I installed a SilenX fan and a 2,5" harddrive which made the MPC definately less noisy!

You could just remove the hard drive. With the 2 USB ports saving via ak.Sys or to an external device such as a USB jump drive there is no real need for an internal hard drive. The same goes for the CD drive.

Did you read the whole thread of you jumped straight to my answer? What's the problem ?

You were suggesting the use of a SATA with an adaptor.
There is no benefit from doing such only the additional headache and potential ramifications of doing such.
There are still plenty of EIDE out there so no real need to adapt a SATA to go inside the 4k.
Same as it no real need to adapt a Solid State Drive to go in the 4k since it has USB Host capability.
Also the belief someone had that the lack of internal hard would alleviate the need for a fan is also incorrect.

It wasn't to get a fan from VST just to find out if they really changed the fan and if so to what.
My Blue Plus was much quieter than the White Studio and it appeared to be a combo of a different drive and fan.
