hotswapping(cardreader)

anyone experience this?---say i have a program loaded up with my sounds and a sequence or two. I go to change the card to load something new and when i eject the card adaptor the sequence starts to either play or go into record mode where i hear the metronome and sequence play. kinda weird. not a super big deal but i hope I don't have any wires crossed or something. I just put the reader in internally and this didn't happen with it external. it works fine other than that.

Try leaving the adapter in there, and just removing the CF Card.

I always leave the PCMCIA adapter in my readers. Seems less can go wrong that way.

If the reader is installed internally then you are experiencing a ground short/power glitch/noise burst into the data/address bus.

If have seen this once with an incorrectly installed floppy drive.

...and with some Microtech card reader models.

Reader installed internally ?

Remove it.

Cut out a piece of contact adhesive plastic covering material/film ( like you would cover a book with ) in the same shape as the card reader or a little bigger.

Stick this in the MPC3000 chassis base where the card reader would sit.

Then re-install the card reader on top of it.

The contact adhesive covering material will act to break the earthing issue.

Fit some plastic screws in place of the metal ones that are holding the card reader in place.

Reader connected externally ?

Could be a number of issues.

Grounding again being one of them.

Check that the MPC3000 is correctly mains grounded.

o.k. so i just tried taking the ground lift off the mpc cord and that problem disapppeared!!

Ok ... so you have a grounding problem

I would be hesitant to run the MPC3000 without it's mains ground connected.

Reason is that the front panel will become live.

Lots of possible safety problems at this point. ( plus risk of damage to external connected SCSI devices )

As it is clear a grounding issue has been established it would be best to fix the culprit.

Lifting the mains earth has shown a problem.

Leaving it lifted is not the solution.

Get onto it !

What exactly should I do? I took the lift off(which solved or avoided the issue). I do not have any external scsi devices connected and do not plan to as long as this internal drive is alive.

I gave you an outline of "what to do" already in this very thread.

That which has been outlined already and get some plastic screws to hold the card-reader in place.

Do NOT run your MPC3000 ungrounded.

Not sure ? Send to a tech perhaps ?
