I always told myself I would never sample mp3s but....

buying records can be dirt cheap but there comes a point where u get tired of the kind of records that filter down into the thrift store sometimes u wanna get them big records 100 & 200 quid u find the sounds on there are better and its more interesting to listen to

just went to a record expo a few weeks ago...found some DOPE gems. Nothing like going to a spot where there are tons of collectors crammed in one building with tons of MINT records. The recession got negotiations at an all time high!!! I dumped a little under $100 and came home with about 15 gems. some which have never seen the light of day. There is no better feeling than opening a record that has been sealed for the last 30-40 years lets see limewire do that

Yeah, conventions are the shit. Every dealer has to outdo the next. You can talk them waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy down and if it doesn't work...move to the next stand. Try finding some of what these guys have on the net. Not going to happen.

amen, get in where u fit in. sample wut sounds good. sample with whatever, wherever u can. doesnt matter if its mp3, vinyl, dvd, tape, microphone, etc. sample wut makes u want to create.

I HONESTLY dont know how to sample from an mp3, only vinyl!

At the end of the day, sampling via mp3, vinyl, tapes, etc, if it doesn't sound dope...

Well me, Im 100% down sampling only mp3s

This is because it personally fits my lifestyle
I dont have the money for turntables, and mpc, and all of that equipment
I use everything on my computer

I live in an apartment, so space is limited and the fact that I can have ALL my songs on 3 seperate harddrives really comes in great.

For quality, I get my beats off the net or from friends or even from my mothers old cds. I ALWAYS convert it to .wav and then normalize it to get the best quality, and that usually gets me a better bit rate (352 kbps - 1411 kbps)

Plus its much cheaper on the pocket, in this recession everyone is trying to make more money with less, but before the recession ive always been this type of person to make nothing out of something, and as long as my beats sound good it really wont matter where I got it from. Some of the music I sample I absolutely hate the song, cant vibe to it only the part I sampled so it would be pointless. So Im glad it didnt cost me anything to make what I like and I can make profit

the latest mpc (i think 5000 ?) - $1500
turntables - idk, but theyre alot
serato - $500
and he used to DJ for WBLS back in the days, he has an entire attic full of records, But most were free. Alot I know he paid for.

Thats a hefty **** setback on cash. I only have a axiom 25 ($160) and ive sold like 3 beats (made only like 7) and made like 50, so ill be soon off to making profit, but ill be upgrading maybe to a MPK 49 or Axiom 61

Is this thread really about "vinyl is too expensive"?

Records are one of the cheapest things on earth. Go on Craigslist and find estate sales, garage sales, people GIVING them away. Dollar bins, thrift stores, neighbors, etc...RADIO STATIONS used to be vinyl based and had TONS and don't need them anymore.
you brought up the recession, but shit, I should be citing the recession to back that up. You don't think there are people in your city who would give away those boxes of vinyl in their attic for a twenty dollar bill? That only costs you a gram of bud or a box of beer, you can find money for records if you want them enough.

You can say you don't like messing with records, but they are not expensive. Especially after you think about how much money studio gear/studio foam, etc... costs. And I'm assuming you didn't pay for the computer programs you use, but vinyl is nothing compared to that. With the cash for some of the VST plugins some of you guys buy, I could buy out some of the record stores around here.

Nobody wants them except for hip-hop producers, old people, and hipsters.

Old people are sadly dying off and hiphop producers don't give a shit anymore, so they're even cheaper (!)

The thing that chaps my ass is here we are in the "crate diggers" section, and most of the posters in this thread
are more interested in having a group therapy and hug session about why they can't fox with vinyl, and how that's okay, and they're broke anyway, and there are no record stores around where they live anyway...

and guess what - the reason why there are no more record store IS YOU...

Now I'm not saying I don't d/l like the next man, but it makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit each time I come into the "crate diggers" section and see these mp3 digger circle jerks and everyone patting themselves on the back like it's all good and sh*t...
