i think that's totally likely, sparq. however, just for the sake of debate there are two limits that could be going on.
first, the mpc may use a small amount of internal memory to store a pointer to the actual sample data. the pointer is always the same size but the data it points to could be up to full memory (you could have one 128mb sample) analogy: a zip code always points to an area but one area could be geographically larger than another yet the zip code is alway 5 digits. so, if there are only 256 locations in which to store pointers to data even if you loaded 256 2k samples you may be maxed out in terms of the number of samples when you've only used 512k of the 128mb you've got.
i haven't tested this out (and probably won't 'cause i'm not at all worried about it) but that may be where limits like max samples come from...

is the max sounds on the 2000 per program because if so then the max sounds on the 2500 is also 256.
you can load 24 programs on the 2500 not 4.

i guess people know about this stuff by now?
so you can have 24 ACTIVE programs on the 2500??
i'm still on a 2000XL where it's only 4 active programs..
i need more than that but i can't find no proper information on how many programs you can use
on the 2500 at the same time...
please help a brother out here..

You'd probably run out of ram before you reached the max limit of useable sounds!

that is what i was thinking... even if your entire song was made up of closed high hat sounds.

so it's 24 active ones?
i meant i needed more than 4. if it's really 24 though that's definitely more than enough.
i'm still not sure if i got your answers right.. (sorry if i'm slow, haha)

wow, this tread is from the stoneage...
in os version 1.23 akai changed the max. number of programs from 24 to 128!!!
but since the polyphony is still at 32 voices there is not much use in that...

hey jo
thanks for your answer. i'm still confused about how many of those programs you can actually use
at the same time in a project.
as an example: the 2000XL can hold 24 programs in memory but you can only use 4 of them simultaneously..
so what is that number on a 2500?
peace

I personally find lots of programs useful as try to organising larger parts of a live-set rather than just single songs. People with lots of MIDI equipment will also like find it beneficial, although it depends on how you work and a lot of people probably have a lot of MIDI tracks set to no program.
As to how many you can use at once, well you have 64 tracks, which can have a program each, and that already takes you well above the polyphony of the unit so I think it's a bit of a bogus question really.

people are not getting my question..
on the XL you got 64 tracks as well but still you can't use more than 4 active programs at one time for the same project.
i want to be able to use more than 4 programs so i need to know if the maximum of ACTIVE PROGRAMS one can use
was increased for the 2500. because if that is not the case i don't even need to bother getting one..
also this doesn't have anything to do with polyphony..

Have you read your own thread? Sparq answered this on page 1.
And it has nothing to do with poloyphony. Polyphony is how many notes can be played back simultaneously.

who are you talking to? you're quoting me but you're saying the same thing as i did.
on page 1 it says first max sounds you can use at once are 6144 which makes sense if you can use 24 active programs.
this is basically what i'm hoping.. but then later posts are getting confusing again:

here dude says that there might still be that 256 sounds limit which is 4 full programs (4*16*4)
which is exactly the same amount as on a 2000XL.
i figured 4 years later heads might have an answer to that question since obviously nobody could really tell for sure back then..
the problem here is that maximum programs being hold in memory and maximum active programs ain't the same thing.
y'all just like "bogus question", "do you read your thread", "already answered blah blah" which is bullshit cause nobody was sure..
so if y'all know the answer why can't anybody tell me straight and clear?

I was talking to you! From your question, I thought this was your thread. But anyway, the answer you asked about using more than 4 programs was stated on page one by Sparq. You have to be able to use all the programs you have loaded. Otherwise, there would be no point in having 24 programs loaded if you can only use 10 at a time.
