what if he prefers to use a qwerty keyboard and have that slot available for that rather than external storage ?

Even if we could have 1TB hard drive installed, a person can only load a maximum of 512MB to the memory. So using the USB for storage is worth considering.

but as someone mentioned early you could just set the HDD to No Spin.

my 4000 still has maxtor drive that came with it from factory and I dont trust maxtor. it's use hours are probably coming towards an end. and is extremely loud...130gb is shit load of beats and samples...

I cant possibly imagine browsing thru that many files on mpcs hard drive. no spin is not gonna help me get my projects back when the drive burns out, so why risk it ?

if you like to gamble with projects you created over the years and samples you've accumulated. that's on you

out of curiosity how many times did you use up all 512MB of sampling time ? or how many times you had to swap the disk or copy entire content to other media cuz you ran out of 130GB ?

Oh forgot that there are places where the stores have been forced to adhere to the SATA only laws.

Transfer speed are slow on the 4k period, doesn't matter how you connect.

If he wanted to use a drive and keyboard a hub works.

If it's a 130 then that is probably not a factory drive and has already been swapped before.

yea everybody is just piling up stock on dead IDE disks since SATA came out in 2003...

you telling me IDE transfer rate is as slow or slower than USB 1.0 ? that's my fault for not knowing that fact, I apologize.

if you read every word instead of every other workd I would not have to reiterrate myself over and over that in my case the hard disk is stock maxtor drive that originally shipped with the mpc. and I am planning on replacing it for bigger/newer 130gb one.
