Trying to build a collection

hey guys...still one of my first few posts

just wondering where you guys get your drum sounds???

when i got my 1000 it came with the All The Breaks files which was over 300 classic breaks

those are a treat ive been having a killer time with them, the world is yours with that collection!!....and ive also got a wack load of kits that came with it too, like timbo kits and kanye kits etc..just some of the heavy hitters

i am wondering if there is like the holy grail of sounds out there that i need to get my hands on

im doing fine with what ive got...ive been a drummer for years, so ive got a pretty descent ear for manipulating drums and what not, although the mpc has some serious features that as a drummer no amount of practice can let me control perfectly, drum machines are relentless....


but its just nice to have options, I want a solid complete library of the best sounds....plus I feel like all my hi hat sounds are not the best, either that or im just having a hard time manipulating them and getting a good sound from them....

any leads would be solid...and also any tips for getting a good hi hat sound as well as a good shaker or tambourine sound would be greatly appreciated as im having problems getting a natural groove with those types of sounds

Why don't you sample yourself playing drums? Can't get any natural than that.

At least you got drums, all I got is a cymbal and a wooden night table. Good mic set-ups is all you need.

yeah man... check out old songs and cut out the drums with your new mpc... record drums and other sounds that are similar to drums.

the rule of thumb: the more bottle smash sounds in your music - the better!

I know a guy that sells a CDROM on ebay for $5 that has 200 drum machines, 7,334 individual samples organized by machine, all at 16 bit/44.1khz and 8.3 compatible filenames for complete compatibility with the MPC.

I copied the whole library into my MPC (it's about 450 mb) into a folder called "DRUMZ," and, viola. Into this "DRUMZ" folder I also created a folder called "zbreakslices" so I can just enter the drumz folder and jogwheel to the end for my chopped-outta breaks drums.

thanks guys....recording drums is a serious art form, kind of out of my league

that collection sounds nice....that is what im looking for....its just hard to know what you are getting when buying samples

I bought my first ever sample CD when I got my MPC. A load of breaks and a selection of single hits on a load of different drum kits by an artist/drummer I rate quite highly. There is a ton of stuff to be found for free if you hunt it out though!

I buy records with breaks on them.

yeah, works for me -- sm57 mic and a box of cowbells, shakers, triangle, woodblock, hand drums, big piece of bamboo i found in the park...
