MPC Only Playing Through One Speaker

I have computer speakers hooked up to the MPC, but only the left speaker plays. Is this a hardware problem?

How is it wired? Was it working before? Have you checked your speakers with a different source? Have you tried headphones into your MPC?

It is a regular headphone jack, hooked into the 1/4" adapter. The adapter is plugged into the stereo out. Ive tried both ports, as well as using a splitter. No matter how I hook it up, it only plays the left speaker. It has never played through both that I can remember, I always assumed it was my lack of a mixer or something.

By "stereo ports" I assuming you mean the two labelled Left & Right on the rear of the unit? You will only get one speaker through each of these. They are TS jacks (Tip and Sleeve) for one signal and ground, stereo needs TRS (Tip, Ring & Sleeve) for two signal and ground. Did you go from both of these outputs, using TS jacks, to the inputs (mini jack?) of your computer speakers? Not 100% sure if that's what you mean when you say you tried a splitter...

Try the headphone socket on the front of the machine and report back.

The splitter that I speak of takes a single 1/4" headphone jack, and splits it into two 1/4" headphone jacks. Thus, I just plugged both 1/4" jacks into the two stereo out ports (left and right)

From what Im reading, it seems that I have the wrong type of 1/4" headphone adapter...?

TRS Jack. As you can see it has three connections; Tip, Ring and Sleeve. Used for stereo or balanced audio.



TS Jack. Just two connections, Tip and Sleeve. Ignore the XLR in the picture.




If you are using a splitter cable I would guess it's TRS on both ends (all three connectors.) As the socket only has two connections on it they will hit the same points on both jacks, probably Tip and Sleeve. You want TS going into each of your pair of stereo outs with the signal (Tips) wired on to the Tip and one to the ring of the TRS that goes into your monitors.


Or just cheat and use your headphone output, it's what I'm doing a lot of the time at the moment as I haven't been bothered to make a balanced to unbalanced cables for when I'm not plugged into my PC.

Ok, just went home and checked. The 1/4" adapter from the speakers is TRS, but the splitter is only TS. I would assume thats my problem. But if I can just plug it into the headphone port and it play outta both speakers, then thatll def suffice.
