Is this wrong? sample ethic

Lately, ive been using more classic break beats for my drums..........sometimes just looping them.....Ive always retained that i must chop a beat, rearrange the drums, or whatever.

But what are youre views on using a "classic break" i mean, i like to freak them my own way, but still retain the break, for that feel, ya know? is this wrong? or should i make sure that im making a statement with it or something?

I think you should do what you feel.......if you chop up the sample thats cool or if you just use it as a base and build on it thats cool.......

The choice is yours but whatever you do I know it will be tight

There ain't nothing wrong with using them... Why not use them? After all they sound great!

In my opinion there are no rights or wrongs in sampling....the only thing I consider as important is that my beats won't sound like others using the same sample....so be creative!

yeah man with a lil filtering or maybe repitching them u can complety change the integrity of the loop. I use breakbeats all the time, i just cut them up into perfect 1/8th notes and replay them back so i can freak them.

I used to be in the same shoes as you man... I used to feel bad, like I was bein less creative cause I wasn't choppin up my samples... I read some artciels and sh*t with Madlib... He's one of the best producers out there and he admits that sometimes a sample is just too perfect... He'll just straight loop the thing and add compression and mix it... It put a whole new perspective on things, for me anyways... Just do what you feel is tight and make it nice... Don't worry about ethics cause you'll just end up beatin yourself up..

when I first started I did that. Then I chopped a kick and a snare from the break and overdubbed an extra kick or an extra snare to make the patterns spicy. Now I mostly chop just kicks and snares and play my own patterns but there's no rule that says you can't use a breakbeat drumloop. Just find a way to freak it.

Yeah, i always try to be creative and chop...im definately one of those who feel that you cant go the Pdiddy route. With regular samples I still retain this. Or if i do loop the "perfect" sample, i just dont loop obvious shit. BUt with Drum BREAKS its differant for me. I like when i can chop them real good....but some i use, are just classic man, just perfect. So i use them!

I guess im just overthinking it....and wanted to know what you guys thought. SO far all my homies like what i do! Even if they recognize the Drums from so and so.......But i had to ask, cause a producers opinion is always differant

do it. its all good. id say even get those reissues and freak the drums and the samples from them classics, make the 2004 version.
