homie do your homework....Do I have beats on this site  maaaan I have them on this site, on mixtapes, on many clients projects a few commercials, television and anything else I can make bread off of. I make good money selling music and providing my services so address your BS to someone else...Break even??? hahaha...I havent paid for gear or records or anything studio related for years..you know who does...my beats and my lab....You got alot to learn youngin..... and its not just about rare records...You and Jpeg gotta be like 19 years old  ...maybe yall just too young to appreciate it...if so Its all good. Keep making your beats with your downloaded samples...just dont post up here talking about mixing or getting better sound from your production because bottom line MP3 quality is weak. Its like this whole new wave of pad pushers (cuz most arent beatmakers, producers and damn sure aint musicians) dont want to contribute anything to this craft, yall want youtube videos to show you how to make a lame ass track, you want the forums to answer all the questions that you can answer yourself and now you wont even put a couple bucks up to get some WAX??? Quality not quantity homie...theres millions of "up and coming" cats that will be selling their gear months after purchase because they are getting nothing out of their music..why...because they put nothing into it...so yea...yall stick to ya MP3 beats and Ill stick to pushing music that doesnt sound like theres a speaker in a fish tank.....

mp3's as u are aware can be encoded at varyin levels of quality a high grade mp3 is fine for sampling,

we have interivews from true vets like lord finess, diamond, bink all stating openly that they get records from blogs
and use it in productions these guys have a proven ear so if shit on blogs was not usable its unlikey that they'd say otherwise.

u making money off beat good for u brah even does they own thing but the reason dudes is in the crate diggin forum
is that peeps have an interesting in learning about new artists to check for, to add to whatever exsisting knowledge held on the subject

That ain't got shit to do with it.

I'm 20. :?

It's not an age thing.

It's just because the internet makes it so easy for anyone to become a "producer". I'm not calling anyone out, I'm just saying that's why it seems like: "Its like this whole new wave of pad pushers (cuz most arent beatmakers, producers and damn sure aint musicians) dont want to contribute anything to this craft" - a lot of those dudes are older cats who only got into it recently because the net made it easy for them to do so.

I'm not going to lie, I've sampled things that people uploaded to the net. If they would have
pressed them to vinyl, I would rather use that, but it's always stuff that only exists on a video in the depths of youtube or something.

Sampling mp3s is okay too, sometimes. I guess. Nothing wrong with it in my eyes but I don't feel the need to do it that often.

I just don't see why people are abandoning vinyl all together. It's not irrelevant like you guys make it out to be.

well hey, I just started with this shit. Only been doing it for 3 months, yeah Im 20. I'll take the pad pusher title until I can honestly say everything I push is good, I know I gotta work my way up. I don't know where you started, But right now im at a shitty job so I cant fork over dough for MPC's and shit. Right now i'm trying to sell my Axiom 25, But thats not cuz im not getting anything, im not getting enough out of that. I wanna learn how to play keys and thats a no-go on a **** small ass keyboard. I wanna get me a MPD32 (akai) cuz that shit looks fun as hell to **** wit, and is the closest midi controller that comes to a legit MPC.

Also, I dont know if you realized, but I just joined this site. Which is why I ASKED if you had shit on here. I know lots of people dont like to put their shit online, I wasnt tryna call u out or anything I just wanna hear your shit and get a better understanding on why you feel the right to criticize so harshly. Also, since you seem quite knowledgeable (no pun intended)
What possible ways are their to rip vinyl to a PC and keep the same quality or a high percentage of it.

edit; damn thats a whole lot of "****'s" lol
edit2: damn, i just remembered that wudnt even matter, Since reason only allows the use of .wav
is there ways of ripping vinyl to .wav and keeping near quality?

Every now and then I gotta dump a record to the comp to edit before sampling usually I'll just go right from the TT to pro tools, edit what I need and then either sample via the SPDIF connection or drag and drop via USB. I prefer the SPDIF because its quicker and you avoid the conversion. General rule is to avoid converting back and forth if possible. Obviously its going to happen but your best bet is to limit the amounts of conversions to retain the quality.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUK16PrOjKQ&fmt=18 check that vid out (its a comparison in HD sound quality)
Its not really a fair fight since the equipment used to play the vinyls are old as dirt
Im trying to read up more on vinyl vs mp3

And you thought us youngins aint do our research lol
I produce for fun (its suttn i always wanted 2 get into to but never had the resources)
Making money off of it would be good to, But I dont see myself major leaguing it

Like I know LOTS of people dont even know who pete rock, j dilla, and alot of top notch producers even are, and they been doing this shit 4 years and probablygonna have work better than i ever did (Gotta have high goals 4 myself lol). So i dont produce with my head in my ass and im willing to learn, which is why I registered on this site, Just to let you know.

""Its like this whole new wave of pad pushers (cuz most arent beatmakers, producers and damn sure aint musicians) dont want to contribute anything to this craft"

how is diggin adding to the art? everyone is at different levels some peeps are hobbiest some peeps just got into it but who am i ti put someone down
on that basis or tryna throw salt on them doing something they enjoy.
if it aint for them they'll drift off into something else soon enuff if they got no inner drive to do it it wont matter what rare shit the download they wont take time
to listen to it and flip it or they wont develop the ear and technique.

no one is abandoning anything if i want some dope sounds to sample and i aint getting the kind of quality from the store then i go on-line
i did shit the hard way learning artist, buying records going to markets buying wack shit.

if i was starting out today id go on-line and not bother with records cos i aint a collector but diggin out there is a fun experince in moderation

at one point had prolly 300 to 500 records a small stash by serious crate digger standards but over time as my ear for records has changed
the shit i was finding instore was not cuttin the mustard so found better quality on-line.

i still check store on occasion when out of town but the same process i learned from my time actually out diggin i apply when searching
on-line cos im looking at artists lables, producers and the year.
the difference on-line is no leg work no budgetary limits and that fact that im relying on what shit is posted but thats all good.

cos most times the dudes that post on a blog aint posting some common shit that everyone sees in the record store they post the shit
that is rare so i see them as avirtual record dealer.

in the same way when dudes used to go to the record conventions they was relying on the dealers bringin the rare shit that is not on the
record stores as often.

Dig in a crate you lazy fockers. I can't stay at home looking for new material on a screen for two hours and then make beats for another three hours. Fu@k that. I take what I need at the local shop, smoke an L, kick it with some honeys, get home, invent something and then I'm out again to party with those honeys. Thats a day in a life for a crate digger. Embrace it beeyatches, embrace.

yawn...

we all know that ALL .wav files are better quality then ALL .mp3 files. Simple as that (unless the .wav was converted from mp3 or another lower format)

I justify using MP3 files because currently I dont have a good table (which is funny because I have around 1200 vinyls in my collection) but that will get fixed eventually.

I think it is fine to use mp3 files for the fun of making music, however if you are using the beat for a commercial purpose or for something that will get played over a big system then probably it would be best to find the best quality file as possible.

Do what you do, but the fact remains that nobpdy cares if you use mp3, and that .wav is better quality then .mp3.

yup its no ones biz how we choose to sample or which sources we use i like to use all thats available but its discussion so peeps will speak on techniques and methods.

That is utter BS. Somebody could of sampled a 50 year old record that has been played until the grooves are worn, recorded off a deck with a cheap stylus and through a lousy pre-amp. Now compare that to a 320kbs mp3 take from a digital remaster which has gone back to the original 2" multitrack tape and has been remastered by a good engineer for release on CD, before being converted by whoever. I know which version I would put my money on being the better quality!

yeah right...

so now look at it properly. take that sample of the old sh!t record from the sh!t record player and sample it to wav, and also sample it to mp3. which is gonna be better?

now do the same for the multi track tape.

and have you read the last few pages? have you noticed the arguing? funny how you found a way to argue mp3 being higher quality then wav.
By kazakore Thu Apr 23, 2009 1:47 pm
You're the one who emphasised the point ALL, not me. Sure assuming same source and signal path the (original) wav is always going to be better than the mp3 but it's possible to get a flac (or other lossless audio file) or a wav recorded by your mate which sounds far worse than a 320kbs mp3 downloaded off a blog put up by somebody who takes care and has quality equipment.

Personally I don't care what you do or what sources you use. I use very little in the way of samples for my main breaks or hooks and most samples I do use then get effected. You hip-hop guys who are using a sampled beat from one track, sampled melody from another and few other sampled hooks and lines are going to need to take a lot more care with the source than somebody who just wants to rip the occasional line from a film (and DVD is rarely PCM, usually being compressed to a quality lower than a 320kbs mp3, but I doubt many people here would say a DVD isn't good enough to take a sample from.)
