Old Drum Machines?

I've got an Ensoniq EPS. But i'm searching for Drumulator II and Linn 9000 (Yes i know the linn 9000 is expensive)

I'm interested in drum programming more generally and it's not always a "drum machine" in the strictest sense that I go to. If you can trigger and sequence drum-like sounds, that pretty much counts as a dm to me. I do have a couple old drum machines~

SCI DrumTraks
SCI Tom
Drumulator
Rhythm Ace FR-2L

Some more recent machines~

Boss DR-5
Yamaha QY100

The MPC1K
Korg MicroX (sequenced via MPC or Cubase)

and some software drum programs~

Battery 3
Artist Drums
BFD 1.5



I'm finding that I can get decent samples of a lot of drum machines, but the actual interface and approach to sequencing I find in the older drums has an influence on the type of patterns I'll create with them, vs loading up their samples on the MP.

Anyone elso notice that the interface of different drum machines / software can impact the types of jams you make on them?

Definitely. I used to have a good hunch when of what beat was done on an ASR, MPC, or SP -- and it wasn't so much the sound as how the track was made.

Programming something like the Oberheim DMX is so different than programming an MPC; programming a step sequencer like the 808 is so different than the Drumulator. That's one of the reasons I like collecting old machines.
