What is the significance of the 2000XL?

I am new owner of this wonderful machine. And I was wondering what the significance of it is?

As far as it's place in the history of MPC's and hip hop production.

I figure, the experienced vets will have opinions and insights and that's what I'm looking for.

it works well. there are almost no bugs at all, it isn't a complicated machine. it has more then enough featured to get the job done (although resample would be nice) it sounds good, the pads are pretty much the best ones out of the mpc series except fo the previous models...

and if you throw it at someone it will probably 1) hurt them pretty bad 2) still function properly afterwards.

i agree..they were built to last, and they're easy to use, and the editing of samples like the auto chop, time stretch and stuff like that all in one is pretty dope

i personally prefer it because of the pads..but re-sampling would have been insane!

to say that it works well is an understatement.

it has just enough to do what it needs to do. doesnt have all these non-needed features and all that.

What about the historical perspective?

I know there's more to it than just it works well.

I know it works well, I own one.

I'm talking about its' place in hip hop history and all of that.

The producers i used to look up to were using the ASR's, SP's, 3000/60/S950's, TR's for Hip Hop and House.
I wanted to be different with a 2KXL.... plus it was all I could afford!

yea i aint really get it for the history purpose, i mean its tight but thats not why i bought it u dig me. i bought it cuz i didnt need all that extra sht. i just need to sample, chop, and sequence.

i think in a historical sense it would have really lowered the cost point to get into beat-making
But really it didn't have that much of an impact as the 3000 made most of the advances then the 2000 just tweaked it a little

one of the most versatile mpc's ever made. from boom bap classics to dirty south bangers, it gets the job done. look at the vast array of producers that use it still. all different types of producers.

I personally like the pads of the XL more than the 60. And yes, it is a damn good piece of gear!

I think you hit the nail on the head.

2K's and 2KXL's were the first affordable MPC.

They retailed at like $1200-$1300 and the MPC 3000LE was about $3000 if I remember correctly.

The 2000xl, to me is the best MPC, the pads are perfect, the OS is rock solid. Historically it has to be the most used MPC... alot of poeple swear by the 3000, but idk... i mean the $$$/sound/hassle ratio is not worth it imo. I think it's cool if you been using it , but to get one now... i mean its kinda pointless.

Me personally just route my samples though an Emax and into the MPC2000xl to get that 12 bit SP1200 esque crunch on my drums. i know its NOT exactly the same but $120 -vs- $1500... plus ive tricked a few sp1200 owners...
