Dear friend I've been producing since 2001 and I know a lot about that, the only think I don't know is about the mpc and swing, and the myth they make around the mpc , that's why I would like to know more about that machine, it doesn't mean I know nothing about production.
The future will tell us if Akai will release another mpc, it's about business, that's why they release the 1k, because the 3k,2k can't work with the computer and stuff via usb, as long we have more tools in the tecnology the hardware and software should follow otherwise the company will loose a piece of the market, as been losing for Roland.
Here some of my remixes, to see if I know something about production.

Akai is set to release a new sound module/sampler descending from the Z4 series samplers, a new filtering set like the MFC (sorry that`s all I know) and new effects for the DPS HDR from what Naoya told me. The number in Japan is 81(Country code) 045-914-8550 mon thru fri 10 to 5:30 pm. I tried to download the tunes eric mix but I kept getting some unlockable zip. It all right I take your word as far as programming a software program which you have some experience. Still on the other hand basically everything you are asking for you can already do with the gear you have. You got a software audio and midi sequencer, you have a 15 thru 17 in monitor, use the optional digital output board if need be or a little digital mixer Onyx by Mackie, record the sequences into the computer and edit away. Most of the people entering this hardware field already have a computer and monitor why would I clutter up my desk with another one. If you want an all in one unit you could master all of your tracks with one machine like the old roland MC 909, Live, or others. And you are right Akai will eventually release a new mpc but not now and not in the next year so don`t hold your breathe friend. The MPC have unlike others close to 10yrs or more life span because it is a sampler. i really don`t have to worry what new connections, and monitoring and most important sounds will come out in the future since I can transfer by a cheap affordable adopter or connector now. Yes in business you have two markets which the products are geared for professionals and the home market. The home market is growing and the users need simpler, faster and user friendly products that are all in one for a cheaper price which is the 1000 which doesn`t have some features that the 2000XL has because you can timestretch on a computer. The others the professional users generally mix and master their craft in a professional studio with a professional engineer using high quality expensive hardware and plugins to get the sound right. If you think you are going to beat this process with consumer grade gear and 2yrs of recording experience I wish you the best. Akai started out as a premier pro studio equipment maker whose pro equipment started to become popular with djs and remixers who had a engineer sit up and show them how to use the machine. when these producers started bringing this equipment home around their peers and family. The home market want to work like the new professionals buying the equipment thinking that machine will do all the work. The price is set for pros and the home market was growing and demanded an alternative price so the 1000 came out which is lighter and connectable to the computer. But you are mistaken if you think that the 4000 was intended for the home market. For the pros that use it the 4000 is doing exactly what`s it is supposed to do in a pro studio for the next 5 to 10 yrs with the release of new technology. Think about would you master your mix at home and go to a pro studio and try to remaster or track the music from a stereo mix? Mark my words here today, gone tomorrow 6 yrs from this very date the 4000 just like the 3000 and others wil still be banging on like vinyl after the CDs of 20 yrs before. Learn to use the piece you got. But to tell the truth if you got the money get a Pro Tools TDM maxed out with a SSL 24track board and you can get a little Roland TR808 with FruitLoops and be next Ninth Wonder. One love

yo ecsmix,
your remixes are pretty nice
not really my style, it's a lot like "dance music" that they had in Europe during the beginning of the '90s
On the Brandy feat Kanye remix I don't really feel the keys in the intro and at the end, they sound "cheap"
otherwise it' original, and in this style you're doing good

I'm not waiting for anything budy, I just asked a question because in another forums people are concern about that, like Akai did with 2000, they release it and right after they release the 2kxl, I read that in a forum, that's all.
I know if they release a new and more advanced gear you all will loose that's why I understand your feelings, but that's is what is going to happen anyways....
For those who think they are good and expirenced in studio and stuff. post your work here.
I have Pro tools LE but it doens't feat my needs right now, when they release the beat detective for le version I might start using it.
Music is my hobbie I don't make money with that. that's why I will not waste money in a expensive hardware to have pro tools tdm.
For what I know, hardly anyone("pros") use mpc 4000 to do everything, only to make beats(the ones who use it), the other stuff are hardware keyboards and SOFTWARES.
I know people who makes a lot of money only with Fruityloops and make beats better than with a mpc. They say they don't need that....fruity does everything better and faster.
So don't judge what is good and what is bad, home or pro, it's all depends of your creativity and skills.

As I have stated before, When I worked for Akai the last thing I heard that they were working on was the MPC 2500. That was back in June 2003, things may have changed. The same way the V Z8 was never released. Also there are some photos of the Akai Boreas Sampler Which does appear to be the Z4 with a zip drive and a new paint job.

I know nothing of the spces of the 2500, but I would guess better storage capacity than the 1000, possibly small HD, at least 2 Q-links, USB connections.
As for the V-Z8, it took Akai over 2 years since the release of the 4000 to get the OS working this good. Do you really think the V-Z8 was going to work?
Is this the same Kalei I helped install the Adat on MPC400 yahoo group? If so, how is the Adat working?

Yep adrian the adat seems to be working fine
And how I really *THINK* it would have worked? I dont know, one would assume a company like AKAI would know what they were doing but then again they obviously dont. But I was just asking since I thought you might have had some inside info other than "it sucked".
