Hi i just recentley bought my mpc1000 about 3 weeks ago to be exact. Anyway i seem to be having MANY MANY problems with it. First i find it impossible to lay down a perfect hi hat. It ussually takes me like 10 mins to get it right. I feel that my rythm is perfect but for some reason it always skips when it loops the bar over. Second sometimes when im playing back samples i notice them fading out and distorting. Also sometimes i will hear a loud beep at the end of a sample loop. Are these problems caused because i am in-experienced with the machine? Ive been hearing ALOT of talk about the MPC1000 having alot of problems regarding timing...etc...does anyone know if these errors happen with EVERY mpc or just the 1k? Because right now im SERIOUSLY considering selling my 1k and getting a 2kxl...what u guys think?

Bit hard to answer all that, since most of us here are not that unhappy with the MPC1000 and can't understand why anyone would talk of selling it. For everyone with problems, 100 are just doing it. Personally, I've used it far more as a sequencer for controlling other synths, never as a "loop sampler" except as a test, and I do any serious sample editing on the PC (by choice).

We would need to see the problems happening to make any serious diagnosis, but if I had a beep on the end of a loop, I would suspect a WAV file format problem, and examine the WAV, chop off whatever it was. If I was playing many samples and it started distorting/fading, I would lower the Master level to -12 dB as a test. And so on - take the questions one at a time, and look for the source. It might be a bug, but even if it is, can you report it, then work around it until it gets fixed? Or do you sit back and cry "WAAAH! BUG!" like other folks here do?

I'm used to troubleshooting things and dealing with limitations, as part of my day job, it's very rare that I ever have to say "It's bad, I'm sending it back." It's not just experience with the MPC1000 - no-one has enough yet, not even Akai! It's troubleshooting principles like "divide and conquer" that get results for me. Yes, I'm an "old fart"...

don't take this personally but its probably the user, not the mpc...

keep at it and youll soon find out that all your problem is basic and can be fixed within minutes..... your sounds is clicking maybe because the sound is set to note of etc/......... as for your loop skipping when it loops, that ussually means youre not laying it down right.. you end your pattern too early... keep doing it until it loops perfectly, get used to those drum pads!

When i first got my mpc it took me a while to get my beats sounding tight as well....it takes a bit of getting used to...make sure that TC is not switched on and also SWING isn't being used.
