Setting up 4 turntables

O.K, I am doing a night next month where we are hosting another set of DJ's and having a 'soundclash' Its not a proper Jamaican soundclash because we're not both setting up our own rigs but we are having 4 turntables and going 3 for 3 all night.

So, I cant get my head around how this is going to work. We will be running off a big allen & heath mixer and will daisy chain another mixer for them to play off. That is fine, I know how to do that. Their sound will just be coming through a spare channel on our mixer. What I don't get is, when my record is playing and they need to mix in their record, how do they fade or cut our music? Do you get me?

I am positive that it must be possible, and I am thinking maybe we need a 3rd mixer or even a mixing desk?

I wouldn't run the one dj mixer into the A&H mixer you will be using.
Just run the main outs of both mixers into an amp's in's that has 2 "y" rca connectors for the stereo outputs of both mixers.



Or the way I usually do it is run both dj mixer outs into a studio/professional mixer's in's on 2 separate stereo channels.

O.K, I am just trying to paint a picture of this in my head. Whats does a 'Y' RCA connector do?

And if I do this will it mean that we can use the fader on each mixer to cut the music from the other DJ's?

The y connector will join the 2 lefts and 2 rights from the DJ mixers to make them 1 for each input to the amp in stereo.

If you mean totally cut out one mixer from another mixer then no and vice versa then NO you can't. The only way is with a 3rd dj/studio/professional mixer.

use a direct box and go in to a multi channel mixer,

i think to be able to listen or controll another mixer you would need a VESTAX mixer with session on it, that allows you to control the outside signal(if i'm not mistaken)
or just get a 3 channel mixer and run the other mixer into it and only 1 dj will have full controll you have to communicate allot while doing that. 4 X4's are hard to work with if you dont communicate with each other,a lot of music a lot of space beiing used up,

mixer 1->mixer 2 either an aux input or available channel on a 3 or 4 channel mixer, then run that to the PA
