what Compactflash cards can I Use with my mpc2kxl?

besides the 1gb Sandisk Flash card I use now

is it possible to use any CF cards above 1 gb? can I use the type II CF cards as well?

This question has been asked and answered so many times that you probably can't expect any replies, other than use the Search button.

The answers: yes, you can use any size CF card with your MPC but it will only format and use up to 1GB of the card. That is the limit for CF media.

You can use Type II CF cards provided you have the right kind of adapter and/or the correct CF slot on your card reader. But why? The Type II cards were only for larger capacity cards and since you cannot use above 1GB, why buy larger capacity cards?

Now, don't ask these questions again!

I am expecting a cf drive to come in soon... and I am tempted to mess around with a few different cards. I have no experience with any cf cards because no other things I own take cf... only sd.

is it possible to use a program like partition magic on cf cards? I have no clue... the 2 gig cards are around the same price as the 1 gig ones on ebay so...

Even if Im a experienced member since, 2002 I still feel verry unsertain about the memory cards...
sorry for asking this but I feel I needed to be 100% sure of what card I need to buy...
I've been using a 1gb card since 2006 and I has worked flawlessly, but the one I have isn't that easy to find so I wanted to know for sure..

any 1gig or lower will work,,,i think u can partition but u still end up w 1gb

pny
they all work for me

and there is a difference in ultra I II and III.
it would be the write speed..the 3 is faster than the 2 and the 2 is faster than the 1..

yeah, i got that.... but if I have a partition on lets say a 2 gb card, it would have two 1 gb partitions.

you know what, when I get the drive... maybe I will just get a 2 gb card just to try it out.

i use the sandisk ultra II 1 GB and it works good.

yeah thats what im saying,,,you'll still only be able to use it as 1 gb..not 2 seperate 1 gb's just 1 gb

You can partition a 2Gb CF card (if you run os 1.14) and use the full card as two 1 gig partitions.

interesting, you definately cant do this on 1.20, i tried, 2 gig cards come up as a single 1 gig partition

hold up a sec, so if I would have the os. 10130,... sorry os 1.14 then it would work?

but going back to earlier os:es isn't possible right?

Which is why I was thinking about using partition magic on the card (if possible) before hand.

The partition only works if you partition via os 1.14. Back in the days when hotswappable cf readers where cheaply available for the MPC I installed os 1.20 as well but soon figured out that it brought no new functionalities to my mpc, instead it took away the partitioning function, so I went back to os 1.14 and never looked back. Unfortunately the non-hotswapable card readers seem to work only under os.120 so there your maxmimum cf card size is 1Gig, and they don't support sd cards neither.

damn this is whats sucking is they are not selling the 1gigs in stores no more. I cant find them any where. Never used the compact flash so ill search for that.
