MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Tonight when i came back home I saw a ceiling lamp in my house had actually burned up and it was on the floor all charcoaled up. Apparently we had a power surge while I was out.... luckily the house did not burn down phewww.

Unfortunately I had left my MPC 5k on because I was working on some projects and even though the MPC was still on and working when I got back home the Screen seemed to be off... it does not light up anymore....

I can see a very faint image on the MPC5000 screen if I look very hard so I know it still works but I can't see the bright image I used to see...bascially the backlight burned up with the power surge and the screen is basically unusable.

What should I do? the machine should still be under warranty, I bought it from http://www.americanmusical.com/ . Should i send it there, should I send it to Akai. or how can I fix it? I hope I'm not shit out of luck.

Oh well Got to look at the bright side, my house is fine and my roommates are fine as well... could have been much much worse.

thanks in advanced.

you are lucky the thing works at all... very lucky.

you should have already (but lesson learned) GET YOURSELF one of these:

http://www.furmansound.com/product.php?div=01&id=M-8Lx

they make a bunch and brand new in the store they start at around 80 bucks. they are definately worth the money because they will save your equipment. They do a bunch of other things too... go get one!

and 15 amps means you dont have to worry about plugging in a bunch of things into it like you gotta worry when using extention cords and octopus plugs haha.

Yeah but it didn't do that much protecting.. well maybe but your screen is messed up.

Also, some power conditioners help clean up your sound for example if you are using guitar amps you often hear the radio in them (well depending on where you are and stuff... but it does happen) anyways furmans help stop things like that too.

just dont plug your laptop power cord in the same plug (wall outlet) as your other sound related things such as your power amp on your PA... get an extention and plug it in from another room if possible. ( often you can get sounds in your speakers originating from your laptop...)

I think previously, someone stated about 2 weeks

haha... that is still ok. I was expecting a month.

maybe it's a good thing I have been ignoring my daw for a bit now... maybe it's time into soft synths and cubase.
trying to stay positive about all this.

*******update*****

Sent the mpc5000 for repair on May 1st they received it a couple days afterwards. Today May 19th I called the repair center in Jersey (closest to me) and they told me they still had not even looked at my MPC, they said they would be looking at it within the next week or two.... great.

blah... doing the beatport Depeche Mode remix completely on the Daw, producing without my mpc is like producing without my rigth hand. oh well.........

Damn that sucks! Thats unacceptable man, you gotta get on the phone with American musical, Akai and the repair shop. Hound them day and night and get your MPC back. The key is to not be rude but tell them what they must do as opposed to asking them questions. My digi003 failed on me and I got it back in 48 hours repaired and an email from the manager at guitar center making sure everything was ok. First I started my attack with G center. Asking them for a replacement...they said they couldnt lend me one so I asked "how can you sell products you dont stand behind". Then I asked for the regional managers number and hounded him. Then I called digidesign and told them that I refused to lose a single dollar in my studio because they dropped the ball on manufacturing a product that lived up to the expectations their advertisements portrayed. I ended up getting the rep from G center on the phone with Digidesign and they called the repair shop and told them that they had to prioritize my repair. 48 hours later I was set to go.

Bottom line climb up the ladder til you get what you want. These dudes have regular jobs, they dont want to hear you hounding them all day. After f*cking up the mornings of a couple of people they will work pretty hard to make you go away.
