Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

yeah, that's hella suspect.

My best recommendation is borrow some cards from friends if you can, find one that worksd, then buy that card.

Or go to a local store, pay cash for a card and try it there, if it doesn't work, keep exchanging till you find one that does.

If they don't suck they should be cool with that.

I bought one of these off ebay a few weeks ago... best $50 I've spent. I did have a few questions, but Shorty answered them right away. Not only did he answer my questions, but he actually brought an MPC to a show we were both playing at, and showed me right there the correct connections and solved the issues I was having. Thanks again Shorty, and I highly recommend buying his custom made flash drive.

Much Luv A-Scrath! (AKA Bagpipes! LOL)

Was good to meet you. Glad I could solve your issues in person.

I'll take your advice and make a You Tube vid.

Thanx for the luv and recommendation on the drive. It IS a great deal no matter how much some hate.

(I don't think they realize my costs)

At any rate, Good job at the show fam, I recommend A-Scratch on the decks for your next event.

And also recommend the crazy Main Volume knob mod on his MPC2000XL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!!!!!!!!

spent all my money on the reader, no money for a card right now. LOL I get paid next week so Im going to buy another one then. I know the card was the problem 100%, but Ill let you know for sure as soon as I get a new one. Thanks for being curious.....I know most others would have sold it and not gave an ish. Much respect SMC, and sorry about the hate, it wasnt your fault. Ill keep you all informed.
On another note....Do you know how hard it is to find that small 4 pin power connector that fits onto the board!? LOL

Yeah, It's a biznatch.

I am in the process of ordering a few hundred, and crimp connectors, wire, and the FDD connector for the card reader, and just making them and supplying them with every kit.

Also, I had half a major breakthrough on hot-swappable drives.

Almost have it, just have to figure out a serial/parallel bridge on a different circruitboard in order to make it possible, but it equates to jumping and recircuiting 100 pins to make it happen. I'm almost there.

Once it's ready, I'll offer the circuitboard for sale as a replacement for your existing ones purchased from me, so you can just unbolt it, and bolt on the new one.

I think I may also have them powdercoated beige, and black, and still have the brushed aluminum option as well.

Would make for customization options.

Much luv guys.

Also, I just discovered that the deuche bags assembling them put a bunch together with improper screws mounting the circuitboard to the bracket. It has been corrected but a few have and will go out that way.

Not so much a problem, as they are fine, they are just cross threaded. They will remain tight an properly connected, just not up to my standards, so it is being corrected..... I have a bunch I have to fix. Pricks.... hard to find good help.

Yo smc, could you send me a list of known working cf cards (size brand etc.) With the original one I had, everything looked okay, but when I went to format the disk, I got a disk write error. With the new cards I got, when I insert the card, then power the machine up, all the characters on the screen get garbled. Im starting to lose more hair then I have...1 month w/ a cf card reader, , still sitting on my desk beside the mp  .

Wow, crazy. That's more trouble than anyone has had to this point.

I know people using Sandisks, I use Microcenter private labeled 1GB cards (Bought a bunch at $10 each cause they were so cheap)

I've also heard of success using Kingstons and a bunch of others.

Best results with 1GB or less, however I have seen the Microcenter 2GB work, and a dude in Finland using a Kingston 2GB

I'd strongly recommend redownloading and reinstalling the OS, and reversing your IDE cable as troubleshoots.

This is a bit more trouble than I've seen anyone have.

2 More botched installs from purchasers this week so far, due to IDE cables being on the wrong way, and one from dude trying to use a 36 Pin!!!! HAS TO BE A 40 PIN IDE or ULTRA IDE, and has to be on the right way, switch end positions to test.

Also one last week again due to corrupt os install

one tip for IDE cables if yours doesn't have that little knotch on one side (so it can fit in either way)...

look on the cable, check for a red stripe (often red) on the cable. that is pin 1.

Image

see the red stripe on the left?

now check the socket you are trying to put it in for an indication of pin 1..

Image

you see on the right, just below the "FC" there is a little 1 (upside down) ... the red stripe end of the cable should be there.

hope that helps.

Aaight Jamestown, keep me posted.

Ummm... as far as Chine goes, I'll try to find out tomorrow.

Also, I am not responsible for any customs charges that may apply.
You might want to look into that as it can be quite the chunk of change.
