mpc 60 mk2 some problems i'd like to make this as new

found a note on the inside saying the following.


"the LCD backlight panel has an intermittent high voltage leakage path to the CPU +5 Volt Supply do not reconnect without first replacing the ELP behind the LCD"


Anyone know prices for this fix ^^^

prices for scsi? and prices for OS upgrade?

mpc-stuff.com has backlight and led products.. the whole led with backlight is like 300 bucks and the backlight itself is 60 i think. the csi interface? good luck finding one. not sure who has any. same wit the ram upgrade. the service manual can be found in the yahoo group "mpc60" but u have to register. read the "mpc60 bible" sticky at the top of this post. it'll help

i thought the ram upgrade was some cheap common ram chips?

also do you have a link for the ram mod where you can solder some wires to different parts of the ram chips to trick it into having the ram upgrade so to speak. I remember seeing this pic with a good amount of leads/wires soldered all over the ram chips...

damn no one has scsi upgrade anymore??? i guess that means no cf'ing this 60

nope.... the RAM on both the 60s and the 950s are proprietary expansion boards, not merely simms... they arent interchangable either, the 60s fits only the 60, and the 950s fits only the 950s... they both look similar though, kinda like an odd shaped "cartridge", without a plastic "sleeve" encasing it...



the "memory hack" info is somewhere in the 60FAQ/bible thread i think....




not sure about the SCSI nowadays... check with roger linn designs, VST, FORAT, and SOUNDLOGIC... those are the only sources i can think of...

I will have some newly manufactured memory upgrades for sale soon. Should be cheaper than current second hand prices if you can hang on for a while.
The SCSI boards went out of production on 1st march 09 and no one has any left in stock.

actually if you go to forat.com he has the scsi board listed as a service for the mpc60ii. $300. i don't know of that's updated because it's been there for years. call them and find out. according to the site they offer every mpc expansion possible pretty much, but nowadays that's kinda hard to believe.

Forat ran out of SCSI noards last November.

wtf is up with detai! taking down the pics for his 60ii restoration?!?!?! was it over some mpc forum drama?

i doubt acid mitch is manufacturing scsi boards (not assuming you wouldn't have the ability if you had the resources mitch). if it were possible, i'm sure many mpc outfitters like forat or vst would have found a way to commission someone to make them with their name brand attached. i just don't see that happening anytime soon. though im sure with enough research and technical know-how it would be possible as all things are. (except for making a software bit cruncher that sounds like an sp-1200)

does anyone know if that note is referring to the el foil? i'm positive that Rohan guy could answer the question. he could probably build an mpc out of rubber bands, pacifiers, and half popped popcorn kernels

ugh looked thru the mpc 60/3k bible thread searched for "compact flash" and "cf" because I was looking to see if it was possible to put a cf card in the 60 instead of having the floppy disk drive.

is it? if so anyone have a link to the thread?

you can buy an external card reader from ebay. look up scsi card readers and you'll find it. then hit up scsiforsamplers to have him modify it to be internal.

any clue what he does to modify it? I'd rather do it myself sense from what i remember reading scsi4samplers is kinda pricey.

I never said I was making SCSI boards. Not sure where that came from.
No one else is making them because Marion Systems owns the rights (AFAIK). They announced no more would be produced on March 1st 2009 although they hadn't actually had any for some time before that due to low demand..
You can still go to Roger Linns website and get put on a waiting list. If they get enough interest another batch will be made. Will cost $300.
