its is unfortunate that such powerful features like the simult pad and qlink dont work the same , i see xl as a sideways step in functionality that will be seen as improvement for some and not for others.

I use xl because when i sample and chop an instrument, i usually want to it to still sound like an instrument and xfade loop is really useful for that. If i wanted samples to sound more mangled, then the additive nature of the os2 qlinks would be invaluable. I understand that simult caused problems for jj when adding new features, and one can assume it made it easier for him to add chord and arp without the usual headaches. I dont know why qlinks needed to be changed though(if it was to facilitate qlink control in gpe that'd be a shame). i can live with it but understand why others find it annoying.(For instance a 2500 owner only being able to use one qlink at a time).

Maybe the losses between os1 to os2 seem smaller in retrospect because there were workarounds within the mpc itself (using simult pads to replicate velocity>pitch etc ,although such workarounds were a little clunky ).It is nice to use the mpc as an all one sample composition tool or performance tool, although like nym says the mpc isnt an all in one production tool. I still to prefer to compose almost entirely in the mpc , then afterwards i can nip, tuck eq, compress and replace fx as needed in the daw. If additive qlinks was an integral part of my composition process it'd probably upset my creative flow too.

anyway for me xl has its niggles but pips os2 as my personal preference. I hope JJ sorts out mono xfade loops soon though cause at the minute they sound correct in the trim screen, but playback like regualr loops in the other screens(i.e. with clicks) .

well, i don't get it, why do we have to lose stuff that would not hurt if it were left in peace?
whys it got to be ripped out - for the sake of it.
most are happy to go - 'oh well, you know if jj removes stuff, that's ok , xl's got some other kewl features'

yes, that you'll prob never use as well.... an sayin ' well i'm alright jack i don't use it anyway, so i don't give hoot' ???

most of the time i'm ok with this ... and understand jj is rippin stuff out and rebuilding to make it better.
but i feel, this time - he's ripped stuff out - and can't be bothered to put it back in. as he's now got side tracked with this windoz sequencer, that i doubt many peeps will buy. ( in fact most peeps will rip it as it's windoz)
so, were stuck with os2xl not being finished. then we gotta buy the next new jj os and get a whole buncha new stuff
and lose some more stuff. the story goes on and on ... which is why i'm stickin with plain ol os2.

with simult pad JJ said it was because of its tendency to cause bugs when adding new features or something- (i presume that in particular it was in conflict with additions like arp and chord, although there might be others that we wouldnt realise as end users).

the qlink changes...who knows thats a bit of a mystery to me. Its hard for us to know what would or would not "hurt". of course os 2 qlinks and simult do work correctly,in comparison os 1 works with 2 filters. but there are bound to be some cpu limitations- it can only do so many calculations within a workable time period- maybe the problem lies there?

yeah sounds logical - but, one of my beefs is why has pattern lost functionality - there was no call for takin out chop & filter
& pitch ... this is one of my main reasons for stayin with os2

yeah i liked those pattern features too. It might of been useful for us and (perhaps) JJ , for him to have consulted some of the more responsible members here before embarking too far on his 2xl project , in order to sound out pros/cons and explain limitations.Assuming the news didnt spread like wildfire and JJ getting bombarded with loads of "eh yo jj can you add this feature to your new os blah, blah, blah"

At the end of day if he sees his project as a business youd expect him to want his customer base interested in further developments- A kind of market research i suppose. On the other hand he might do it for his own enjoyment and the money is just a bonus on the side- in which case he has less incentive to satisfy the baying mob down at mpc forums.com.

Even this approach though wouldnt of been without problems either...e.g. I was very keen to try out the chord feature when it was first mentioned- but have not found a use for it in my own compositions, so im sure there would of been people disapointed either way. For me if it was a simple choice relating to cpu resources... old qlink and simult over chord anyday. I imagine if jj actually did this for an "os3" there'd still be people going "why did jj pull chord feature- i use it all the time... if i want to use old simult id use os2.. but i really like os3's new xyz mode..."

MAJOR cosign on this. i've said this before but he should have consulted with his users and got some feedback before developing the new os. instead, 2xl just dropped out of nowhere and it was take it or leave it. he needs to chill a little bit on all the undercover, top secret buisness.

I am currently in motion and had the brilliant idea of taking the 1k with me instead of something bigger.
I now know it was a bad idea and understand what JJ is fighting.
The CPU is really being tasked in XL like never before.
This is the first MPC I have ever seen bog down.
Working at 180bpm, 2 drum programs, 1 layered instrument program playing and arp type synth line (played not using JJ arp) with some OLink filter, 1 chopped sample program, about 5 sequencer variations.
This is enough to make the buttons so slow they seem almost non-respondent as you wait for a funtion.
Turning the Data wheel 4 complete revolutions gives no response but will jump the proper amount if you stop the sequence.
If you enable the second filter while the sequence is playing you can hear the the tempo drop, not see the tempo change but hear the sequence struggling thus playing at a slower speed.

The JJ os needs some optimization to reduce overhead, but I suspect JJ may have already done this at an earlier stage.

All of sudden the 4k doesn't seem to bulky.

Not sure which was worse bringing the 1k instead of 4k or typing this on my moble.

This is so true. I have experienced that with XL v1.16 and OS2

XL 1.15 Was Straight
