MPC 5000 OS 3.0 Vs Linn Drum 2

However, just to throw a real 'grenade' into this thread, I think the 'Maschine' from NI is gonna seriously knock all other competitors real hard over the coming year or two - this thing looks truly awesome.

You can talk about build quality all day...but the MPC 3000 was not bullet proof. The LCD screens do not last forever. The LCD screens eventually become unreadable and need to be replaced. The buttons have tact switches that wear out like any other MPC. I do not find the MPC 2500 or 5000 to be cheaply made. They are more streamlined and lighter which is the case for all workstations.

And as I said before, Roger Linn has not built anything on the level of the MPC 3000 in decades. So get off his nuts

The 2500 & 5000 feel like toys compared to the 60, 60II & 3000! Come on , be for real!

Maschine would be more interesting if it could run standalone as an actual drum... maschine.

To me it just looks like a glorified MIDI controller. An MPD with a few cool ligths, bells and whistles. Not hating on it, but for the price, i think I'd rather get an MPC 1000

that's ok I'll hate on it. the maschine sucks under this context, and if the linn drum 2 does come out it will wipe the floor with maschine cause even the people who primarily use a computer cant wait for the linn 2 but since that hasn't arrived just yet lets talk about this, nobody who is in the market for an mpc is going to buy maschine cause they are totally two different things for two different purposes and two different users. the mpc is an instrument and maschine is a midi controller.

You couldn't be more wrong. Maschine is the first hardware that's designed to be totally integrated with software thus having the benefit of behaving like a self-contained instrument without having to look at a computer screen while having the power of computer software integration. To say that it's just a midi controller is laughable and completely misses the point of Maschine. Maschine is more comparable to a hybrid setup of both MPC, an Electribe and Ableton Live's session view. It's like using MPC and electribe synced with Ableton Live's session view but it's better because it's seamlessly integrated. No external midi sync issues or routing and timing headaches. And for people who know the annoyances of using software, there are so many benefits like never having to use a mouse, step sequencer mode, APC40-like Ableton Live clip matrix mode, an advanced workflow that allows you to never having to stop the sequencer, in a way that a MPC could never do...etc.

MPD32, triggerfinger, padkontrol are midi controllers. Maschine is the new paradigm for hybrid software/hardware instrument.

Can't comment on the 5k but the quality of the PCBs in the 2k5 is terrible. Couldn't believe it for the price of the unit and how sturdy it feels/looks from the outside. it is, it is....I wouldnt be surprised if they dropped 2500 out of the lineup...or adjusted prices accordingly making 1000 cost $500...2500 cost $1000 and 5000 costing $1600-1700 which you can already find new on ebay
