the part is from ALPS called SRGPSJ0500 and this info is not in the "part numbers thread" but it's
in the 2500 service manual and in this thread:

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&p=1017692

Download MPC2500 Service Manual

on this datasheet from ALPS you can get more info:

SRGP-Datasheet page 31

MPC 1000 Rotary Encoder:

the part is from MITSUMI called SIM-026MT, order number R66 5214, this info is in the 1000 service manual

Download MPC 1000 Service Manual

get more info on datasheet

Download SIM-026MT datasheet

This might help to find a replacement and build a nice custom jog wheel, less noisy with longer lifespan.

what do you mean? this thing is already in your 2500 . i wrote to inform the people who's manufacturing the parts and what are the specs of them.

buy the part for mpc2500 at vst - 19$

someone told me the alternative incremental enc. should have the same number of pulse/number of detents

have to do more research...

sorry, my mistake. i thought since lots of people were belly-aching about how they disliked the data wheel on the 2500 that this was a different version (more like the 2000)

Did anyone contact ALPS to see if they would consider redesigning something that is more solid. I bet that it would not cost as much as we might think, Plus those people need their bills payed too. I would be willing to put money towards it.

Also I know it might sound crazy, But whenever I get a chance I am going to see if somehow I can add a little bit of weight to the Jog dial itself and see if that will maybe give it a better feel, (Don't knock it, Till you've tried it). Mine works fine it just feels cheap. I think it's a combination of the encoder and the dial itself thatmakes it feel so crappy. CHEAP PLASTIC and CHEAP PLASTIC.

yes, even wheels on fisherprice toys feel better

edit: i don't think ALPS will produce a new edition of SRGPSJ0500 encoders until you are ordering a very high quantity of them

Hey' Everyone's hurting for business nowadays, Would'nt hurt to ask, Between MPC Stuff, FORAT, and VST and consumer buyers, I bet they would sell enough to make it worth there while. I think it was one of the ways for AKAI to cut cost.

worth a shot, THAT wheel is the worst thing about the 2500

Well has anyone tried replacing the ring with a metal one. Wouldn't be that hard to engineer, just some wheet metal and a pair of sheers, Worth a try, dont ya think? i mean i dunno too much about encoders, but it looks like its a standard plastic bearing sleeve.

And what do you expect from that then? A more "solid feel" just because it's metal now? Forget it.

Well, you could enineer the bearing sleeve and custom make a metal knob, then weld the two. That would be solid. :) ???

Metal is more solid than plastic  , is it not. as stated above metal with some type of bearings you can't go wrong, with a proper design of course.

Thank you, dj. Ive had to custom fabricate bearings for a bicycle, and it was not that hard. time consuming, but not hard. Another idea, howabout a ball bearing?
