of course there are posers who use the mpc but in every clip i've seen the maschine does not look as much like an instrument as an mpc and that is what i mean by they are two different things. they are not the same experience I've tied maschine if you have tried it you would know the experience is different and that difference favors the mpc.

Considering it's still very new, I wouldn't rely on a few videos that you can find of someone who just bought it. These videos however shows you what it's really about: http://tinyurl.com/dxf43h

Maschine DOES operate like a hardware instrument much like a MPC or an Electribe does. You can use Maschine without ever having to look at a computer screen or use a mouse or trackpad. You can do all of the things that MPC/Electribe can and more. It's way more flexible, powerful and innovative. And this is the first time that a step sequencer is made available in such tightly integrated hardware and software setup. The difference favors Maschine.

i can't seem to open that link, are those videos you've made or are they youtube clips, do you have another link?

the lights on maschine are annoying as all **** to most organic beatmakers and on top of that you might not have to look at the computer but you can't walk away from the computer either, you know the mpc is a computer too i don't see how you could claim that the maschine has a tighter computer /controller integration than an mpc, nothing is tighter integrated than the mpc controller and computer parts inside it.

now maschine has a great stepsequencer i agree but if I wanted that I'd use fruityloops which also would not let me walk away from the computer by this I mean there are lots of exceptional computer stepsequencers and I mean many, there's no way I'm going to buy a hardware beatmachine based on a stepsequencer tied to a computer.

We're talking about a new paradigm, an integrated hardware/software hybrid. MPC is a great instrument but is outdated in comparison.

Um, a major point of Maschine is that it works just like hardware allowing for more efficient and instrument-like workflow compared to clicking around with a mouse.

No, it's more like having a MPC that has the power and flexibility of software. People have been syncing their MPCs with software for years and wishing for better integration between the two worlds. Maschine is a logical extension to that concept.

but for years people have been wishing to leave the computer where it sits and walk away with your beatmachine under your arm and maschine takes a step backward in that regard, look at it this way that people want more out of the mpc is subjective, the majority of mpc users don't use have of the features in the standard os not to even mention the jj os, lets see how many mpc users run in droves to buy maschine. the mpc has everthing one needs already (another subjective comment) but based in reality.

Check Maschine out after the next update in the summer. Right now the software sucks big time with a long list of VERY basic functionality totally missing. No way can it compete with an MPC in it's current state.

No midi in or out for starters. So it can't sequence anything else or be sequenced by anything else.

The sample engine sounds thin and harsh

Can't even normalize or truncate a sample etc.

He's right on all accounts though. The 3000 definitely has it's flaws (buy an MPC2500, 5000 or 4000 instead), the MPC60 definitely is obsolete (plenty of samplers can do more and better things now). The only reason some people still mess with it is nostalgia and the near-mythical idea that it produces a certain kind of signature sound.

I am sure Roger Linn can make excellent gear with the right team, enough time and financial support, but whether the Linn Drumm 2 will be truly an awesome sampler remains to be seen.

The amount of delay in the development process isn't making it look very promising to me, even though Roger Linn was ONE of the people who made the first few excellent MPCs possible.

^^^ Last time I check Ebay, it didn't seem like 60's were obsolete. You ever use a 60? Do you realize it is 12-bit? No myth about it man, it has different sound.

"plenty of samplers can do more and better things now" - Its about Quality not Quantity.

The great thing about Roger Linn is that if you email him he will reply personally and normally within a day. I remember sending him a bunch of suggestions for the Linndrum II, and each time he was appreciative. Whether anything I suggested will make it into the final unit I don't know, but at least he listens.

Contacting Akai is a different story. Send an email to [email protected] and you'll never hear back from them. They do seem to respond on Twitter though, but I highly doubt you'd be dealing with anyone from Akai Pro R&D on there.

I'm hoping the Linndrum II does well. That said, Maschine does look very impressive. At first I dismissed it as just being a controller, but having studied up on it, I'm impressed with how flexible and powerful it is. A 5gb lirary built in that has 700 kick drums, many from well known artists like Amon Tobin etc. User sampling of course.. Plus the fact that a sound from a single pad can be spread across an entire MIDI keyboard leaves Akai's 16 levels for dead. You can do a similar thing with loops as well. A loop on a single pad can be split across multiple pads within that one pad.. if that makes sense?

Sure it runs from a computer, but with a laptop would easily fit in a backpack. Then because you can run it all from the hardware, you could just close the lid on the laptop and put Maschine on top of that, so you don't even see the LCD screen and it wouldn't be taking up any extra space. Maschine sitting on top of a MacBook or Pro wouldn't even reach the height of most MPCs, so would still be more portable. Get a laptop with 8 hours battery life like the new Dells etc, and it would probably run almost as long as an MPC500 on batteries. With the lid of the laptop closed and the LCD not in use, you'd probably have even more running time. Something to think about.

Haha, it's not the tools that make the music, it's the users.

I agree, I'm just curious why nothin is comin out of the maschine base, I know alot of people have one now. I'm actualy just intrested in hearing some good shit I plan on picking up one when the prices come down, the features look good, but an mpc killer it is not i don't even really think it's right to compare them
