This could indicate failing floppy disks or a drive going bad/in need of service.

Sounds like the heads are dirty or the head preamp circuit on the drive is failing.

Try using a floppy disk cleaning kit and see if you can bring it back to life.
Sad fact with MPC60 floppy drives is that most of them have done many years of dirty work.
So it is inevitable that they will one day fail.
