Share your knowledge on these two classic MPCs

Hello, I have an MPC60mk1 and I've been using it for a while and recently I've noticed the display's been getting quite dark (even though it wasn't amazingly bright when I bought it six years ago). I decided to replace the backlight (from backlight.co.uk) and the result was hardly noticable.

I can't figure out whether MPC60mk1s have inherently dark displays (since most of the Mk1's I've come across do have poorly lit LCDs) or something's up with the display on my unit (especially after seeing the one shown on the Roger Linn website)

Can anyone help?

They aren't the brightest of displays, but a white backlight helps make it clearer. It still looks blue, but a lighter blue with more contrast against the letters.

backlights from www.midi-rakete.de are the best in my opinion.

that's odd...my MPC screen has never looked blue...more like dark green. But thanks for the info elmacaco, I'll give 'em a try.

I am still trying to get a backlight for my MPC 60 Forat wanted $65 which seemed a bit high but I might have to go with them because they seem to be the most reputable company that carries them.

GO with midi-rakete, they guy can give you any color, and has very good backlights.

You can see pictures of the difference between blue and white backlights at the MPC60 Yahoo groups photo section.

Look at the pics, any new light is good. I like white better, but I am curious about green, red and yellow, orange etc.

Does that include labour?

No labor included that was just for the part not to mention shipping and handling.

i think FORAT quoted me $100 installed for the backlight, they only have the original stock version of the light they said it works the best over these custom ones... i did check the pics on the yahoo group and the white one that elmacaco got is dope lookin'.... havent decided on FORAT or MIDIRAKETE yet, also my buddy at SOUNDLOGIC in Ramona, CA also does his own custom ones.... he quoted me $75 for one installed on an S950, not sure what hed charge for a 60mkII though.... i think its a bit different for mk1 and mkII... im still weighing my decisions, but seriously the white one on the yahoo group looks pretty nice!

I see I see. I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and send it to Forat when my screen eventually needs replacement. I don't feel too confident changing the LCD on my 60. I'm cool with installing memory, scsi, disk drives and all that myself but that soldering thing is a different story.
