Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

My first post and im afraid its not a good one lol.

I recieved my mpc500 brand new yesterday and was all working fine for about an hour. I formatted the 128 akai cf that came with it to load a couple of folders with samples in and that all went fine so i started adding the samples in a folder to the pads and got to the last hihat sample and the mpc froze.

I restarted the mpc and ever since it's freezing when my cf card is in. I'll take it out and its fine. So ive been there for ages switchin on and off with and without the cf to try get it loading with the cf.

Eventually it sometimes works so i can format cf or us the usb to delete through my pc. I got it back to normal and working once until i tried to put sample folder onto my cf and then it started freezing again. Ive just got it back to normal and cf is formatted and its all working but obviously im worried to upload anything to the card.

I read on a site on google that it was to do with usb lead but ive tried two but cant see why it'd be to do with a lead as when its going wrong the lead isnt even in the mpc?

Ive ordered 128mb ram and sandisk 2gb cf and might even try a new usb lead but at this current time i feel the mpc500 is unusable to me...

Anyone know anything or any solution about this?

Sometimes the CF reader on the MPC may be defective. I've had this happen on the MPC1000 and I've read about it with other peoples MPC1000s and MPC2500s.
It could also be a rare case where the ribbon cable to the CF reader is loose.
Since you just bought the machine, I would suggest exchanging it, since opening up the unit to attempt a repair will void your warranty.
