Yeah, it was 45 king on Stan.
His beats aren't bad in my opinion.
But yeah, a producer in undergroundy hip hop is usually different from a pop music one.

Yea Em is a producer in the sense that he actually helps mix and compress and record what someone else is playing... Dre does that and so does Timbaland for a lot fo his R and B beats... A producer doesn't have to be the person who makes up the melody for the beat...

Yep he uses a new machine called the cash2004. He gives a producer thats hurting for money some cash and a sandwich then puts his name on there beat.

as pointed out before, lot of you seem to think that producing means only making beats. there's a lot more to it fellas...

we understand that ballistic but im not givin anyone flowers credit for helpin someone mix some ish and then callin it they beat... thats garbage... em prolly cant even do a decent 2 bar drum pattern... most of the cats on this forum make beats...they dont tell someone on a board add a little reverb on the snare that (fill the blank) laid down... i give credit when credit is due.. lyrically hes nice but beat making

If you read the credits inside the album you see who did what. On the first D12 album you'll see PRODUCED BY EMINEM, KEYS BY LUIS RESTO, BASS BY JEFF BASS, DRUM PROGRAMMING BY DJ HEAD and on other songs you'll see PRODUCED BY EMINEM, KEYBOARDS BY MIKE ELIZONDO, BASS BY JEFF BASS, DRUM PROGRAMMING BY DENAUN PORTER... stuff like that. So the instrumentalists on the project do get credit for their work but eminem is the producer of the track, raping... um I mean raking in all the publishing!

If you have credits in the liner notes, you probably are respected enough to get some proper dough for your time. Also, session players, aka, the bass player on some tracks, usually won't get a publishing split unless he is listed as a "key member' in the actual band or group. Unless you're in The Roots, that's not gonna happen. It really all depends on how much weight you have to throw around, and that means a) you were born into money and/or position, or b) you're an adult about your ish, and you get your hussle on properly. Artists make so little money off royalties, do you think they are tryin' to pay session players off of publishing? Usually not.
But someone like Em is probably going: OK, Jeff, I want you to play something like this - and then explains the bass line he has in his head, or shows him with a keyboard. That's the producers brain, and mostly the session players' fingers, which he gets payed hourly for. But hey, when I work with players, that's how I do mines, and I'm just speculating here.
I can't believe Mark the 45 King is still producing. Good for that dude, he's always held it down. Can;t say Flavor Unit was anything I would ever let touch my ears again, but he's made some classics. Stan is an ill track...I would have made Diedo cum all over herself.
