I think sentiments like that are what helped create Maschine in the first place. There are good reasons why some people prefer dedicated hardware and find the process of working with computers too cumbersome or unintuitive, even though computers are far more powerful. Maschine is an answer to that dilemma.

The 4k's a bit too much for my needs to be honest. I only really want the 2500 as an ideas machine as everything will be tracked (back up to 24bit ) to Cubase.

No doubt the Maschine has a tremendous amount going for it and I was impressed with it too when I looked at it recently.

Die hard MPC users will remain such, but the threat of this unit is no 'flash in the pan' one. it is here to stay and there will be more like it. I bet Akai have already been secretly working on a prototype of similar ilk .... I think that they will move more away from the MPC model, as they already have done with their recent controller ranges. However, haibg owned one of the recent falgship hadrware software controllers - the MPD32 - it would be a cold day in hell before I revisit any thing that Alai do put out along those lines ( what a piece of shish that MPD was - utter crap and near on unsyncable from my experience ).

I'm not 100% sure...

All i've been doing recently is finding sounds online, listening to lots of sounds, converting them to 16bit and finally transfering them to my 2500... basically everything other than making tunes!

yeah but it is time consuming... and still needs to get done. better do it now rather then when you are in the mood to make music

Nope, not by a long shot. a/d conversion takes 1ms, d/a takes 1 ms
this 2 ms is unavoidable

then the bulk of the rest of the latency happens in the device driver

USB 3 cannot change these facts

Yeah, I want to get it fully loaded so I don't have to scrabble around looking for sounds. It's also nice having almost my entire history of production and sound collecting in one place, although what was a blank 80gig hard drive two weeks back only has around 15 gig left.
