EDITED-

Auto drum Sample assign-

Something I made up while trying to create a program..

we have 4 pad banks with 16 pads for each bank making 64 sounds (in theory at least).

would be cool if there was a function that allows us to highlight 96 sounds of our choice, hit do it and the MPC automatically assigns 64 drum hits across all banks and across all pads.

not as good as a sample editor, but is much quicker than the regular method.

Wake up! 16x4=64

+1
You can already load a folder of samples but it would be nice to select your own and have them mapped to the pads. The 4k and Rolands have that feature.

-Mark select to load/save a group of samples

Of course this would be great. You will find this request within the first few posts of this thread.

I think the Kurzweil K-series has the following feature along with DAWs:

Basically, add an option to overwrite MIDI date continuously while recording a sequence. NO OVERDUB !!!!

Also, add an option to start recording with a pad strike. (not sure if this is already implemented)

And please allow one to set loop points down to the ppqn.

Maybe allow support for a USB qwerty keyboard for faster folder/file naming. The 5k manual mentions NOTHING on this, but I know the 4k supports this.

maybe you could make a midi mod qwerty keyboard. like if you push "A" it sends a trigger "pad one X 1" or if you push B it sends: pad one X 2

I disagree on this one. The way the MPC does it is an advantage. Otherwise, after you replace record the last take it will start overwriting what you just played when it loops. Even if you are fast enough to take it out of recording before it erases what you wanted to keep, it is distracting to be worried about taking it out of record in time.

Don't care much for looping to ppq but can see its usefulness.

+1 on the USB keyboard for naming. Sucks naming with the data wheel.

It would be nice for that option to start recording when you press a pad. It already has record ready if the sequencer is stopped so it should be possible.

One other thing that I never understood about the MPC. Why do you have to hold overdub or record and press play to punch in. If the sequencer is playing, pressing record or overdub should drop into recording immediately.

This is why i said

add an option

I'm not asking that the overdub function be removed or tampered with. Just add a record mode that overwrites continuously.

d. Add Shift + Pad to [Extract] waveform between start/end points and assign to pad/program

Of course, that shortcut is already used in 2.0 for assigning the whole sample so maybe they could put "extract" on a function key in trim or use window.

The shift + pad is used to assign a sample to a pad on the trim screen when the cursor is on the sample name. But when the cursor is on the start or end values it does nothing so this shortcut can still be used to assign a sample region to a pad when the cursor is on the start or end parameters.

Basically, when you highlight start or end, If you hit shift it could read "Hit pad to extract and assign region"

Should be easy to add. This alone will help manual chopping tremendously.

1. Purge sounds not used in a sequence.

2. More features in the Random screen. Ability to assign different settings to Random: filters, decays, pitch, and so forth.

3. Better phono pramps. What happened to the bass?

4. More efx.

....10 years ago i had a little tool from akai called CHORDFINDER....

drop that one to the miditracks....track fixed to key.....each pad plays only chords...all being part of that scale now....ahh, killerapp......

and + 1
streaming option....need to hook audiotracks on sequences....

Please add a way to turn off quantize for input. I like to use the 960 ppq and NEVER want to quantize during recording unless using note repeat. All other sequencers have a way to turn off input quantize but the MPC does not. Its tied needlessly to the timing correct note value. Every time I want to record something new I have to remember to go to T.C. and rotate the data wheel until the note value says off then close. This gets really irritating to have to do this extra step prior to every recording. Sometimes I forget and have to do the take all over because I did not want it quantized. Plus when I do want to quantize I have to set the note value from off back to 16ths again. I should not have to fool with this.

Please Akai, add a way to turn off input quantize so that it stays off for recording regardless of the T.C. note value setting. Of course this would not affect note repeat but all other recorded notes. Whats the use of having the 960 ppq and quantize strength if we have to jump through hoops to use it? This little thing breaks up my work flow.
