Making smooth and aggresive basses on 4K.

Hello fellas. I don't have nothing more but my MPC 4K, turntable and mixer. What I'm trying to do is to make smooth basses or aggresive ones (like WRRRRRRRR). I play the bass on KG or 16 Levels and then I try to edit it. I am mostly using LP filters but it makes it sounds muddy without power. I thought about using Triple filter but don't know from which point I should start . LP means it passes all lows and cuts all other frequencies that can make bass sounds more smooth. Any ideas or clues? I'm trying to use my MPC4000 100% as I simply fell in love with it.

get you some decent sine wavs and create your own bass.

If you want some sexy acoustic bass, either sample a nice bass note or buy a multisample.

tutor sells some bass samples as do others.

you can go a long ways with a few nice bass sounds.

Single cycle loops may be a good starting point, if you're willing to do your own programming.
There are also a lot of of interesting videos concerning this subject on youtube. A very nice
demonstration was made for the Ensoniq MIRAGE 8bit sampler. You'll find isntructions how to
build up your own oscillators by means of a sound editor.

By tendency you'll get smooth basses by starting with a sine waveform, while saw gives a much
more aggressive sound due to the level of higher harmonics.

making your own with single cycle wavs is dope, if you feel like doing it.

if not, just buy a good multisample.

either way, it's not that hard to achieve what you want to do.

A good point to make a powerful bass sound is working with several layers, thats what synths do (oscillators), try to use a sub-octave layer...
