why would you buy one from here when you live in china... they are all made there. I ordered a CF drive and including shipping it costed under 3 dollars. including shipping...

the problem is that there is no mount or case so I had to make a temp mod... however I am tempted to grab one of those nice metal ones you guys got up on ebay...

any chance you could mark the value of the item at like 1 dollar so customs wont charge 40?

Mostly because I just want to save myself the hassle of finding these pieces and knowing that they work together. Plus the instructions and so forth. It's largely just a matter of convenience, I could probably find this stuff here (and I speak Chinese so that isn't an issue). If someone can provide clear photos of all this stuff I can try to find it here and post info on the price and everything. I don't mean to undercut the business of the person who made this thread, I have zero interest in making money off this.

nah, you wont vut off his business. the thing he has is that nice front metal panel. you cant get readers with those for extremely cheap.

SMC wrote:This is a simple to install, everything you need kit. No hassle. Beats the **** outta MPCStuff's $125, and they do the same thing.

Hey Man. Can you explain why your kit beats the MPCStuff's card reader? Will you have more of the complete kits up on eBay in the near future? Thanks.

Ok, I'll try and blanket everything since my last post........

Yeah, it doesn't hot swap.... fully disclosed here and in the auctions, and prior to every sale.

Benefit to this over MPC Stuffs is this one is less than half the price. They do the same thing.

Shipping to China, my bad, sorry bro, I'll ask today when I ship two out. Probably around $15
(I will not fudge anything on the customs forms, I don't want any troubles, I'm also not responsible for any customs fees)

Also, there is no modification necessary to install my kit. The complete kit offered now is COMPLETE.

Mounting Screws, Ribbon Cable, and Power Cable Adapter so you need nothing else but a Compact Flash Card.

Some units will need the Power Cable Adapter, some will not. I include one with Every kit just in case, so you don't have to modify your original cable.

I have no 'kits' available at the moment, I am waiting on Power Cable Adapters.

In the meantime I will put together instructions with photos to simplify this for people.

I will also include the 3 biggest 'troubleshooting' items that people goof up on or have trouble with.

It is always one of those three. Like a bad OS install, Reversed Ribbon Cable, or incompatible CF Card.

Buy whatever you want. It's not gonna effect me. I'd say about 50% of my current sales are a result of Referral from those who have already purchased one from me. They speak for themselves.

This is not a business for me, I just made these a couple years back and never really did much with em. Finally got around to people needing em and geared em back up again with improvements.

Soon as cables show up I'll be good to go with about 80 Kits.

Thanx Guys,

I'll get the last two purchases from over the weekend in the mail this evening.

Compact Flash Card Compatibility Guidelines:
Type I/II CF and MicroDrive,
Spec 2.0
IDE/ATA-33 Buss, Jumpered DMA Mode (Via onboard circuitry)
IBM Micro-Driver CF II

Some CF Cards work, some don't. I cannot guarantee which particular card will,
however, if you stick to the specs above, most will be fine.

The compatibility guidelines on all these non-hot-swap readers will be the same.

I'll say it yet again..... the compact flash card itself has an interface built in, and these are always changing.

Microcenter private labeled cards have worked perfect for me.

Many people are using SanDisk and Kingston, though I have heard of some not working.

I paste the same text here I sent to shorty via e-mail in the case of that some of you folks could help. Thanks in advance!

"I downloaded and installed the OS 1.2 correctly so that shouldn't be the problem. The power cord u sent didn't fit. Is it necessary to have a power cord with all the four wires: red, yellow and two black? I used the same cord that was in the floppy drive(only one red and one black wire on the cord) and the red light comes to the reader, so it is getting power.

I had the same issue as jonestown on mpc-forums: the ribbon has to be installed the right way cos when I reversed it, all the leds just lit up and the screen illuminated - OS wouldn't load either.

So, the problem is that I'm not getting Atapi-text for the device. There is only F-ROM in the device-field and the type is NO F-ROM. It doesn't recognize it.

I've tried with Kingston's 512mb card, Sandisk's 128mb card, Hitachi's 128mb card and Sandisk's 32mb card - none of em is workin.

Should I get the Atapi-information if the reader is installed correctly? Or does it stay as F-ROM until I get a cf-card that works with the reader? Or is the power cord the reason? Confused...

I read ur instructions from the topic many times and everything should be okay. I just don't understand why it isn't."

edit. after the installation of OS 1.2 the mp still says "no floppy!" when going to load/save screen. Is that a sign of a bad installation? Should it be atapi all the time now?

the power cord is not the problem

you only need the red (4-5 volts) and that black (negative) .. the yellow power cable is like 12 or 13 volts... which is not needed for the flash rom reader as far as I know..... it's just that molex cables traditionally have all 4 wires so the connectors always have 4 pins.

let me ask some questions

what are you guys formatting your cards as
what are you formatting your cards in

if my thinking is correect in what your answers will be,then i might know the problem your having with his reader...

if one peron got the reader to work and he uses the same equipment for each one,,then they all work...a lot of the problems are in the cards themselves..ive hooked up 4 or 5 of these card readers and have had problems with the first few until i figured out where the real problem layed...
i didnt use his exact reader but i used the same type of components..

ok you guys having the problems,,answer the 2 questions....

just sent you an email

My guy has my 2KXL, so I can't just power up n check, but I'm pretty sure you gotta have a card in for it to show the ATAPI drive.

Your problem is most likely your card, or a corrupt OS install (BOTH VERY COMMON)
