So i installed 8 outs last night

and unfortunately i'm not getting any signal coming out of any of the 1/4 inch outs or the digital out???? i checked the manual and i'm pretty much positive i have it hooked up right....if anyone has any tips or anything along the lines of getting it to work correctly please let me know....

hmmmm, no i figured it automatically distributed each track to each corresponding out?.....am i completely wrong?

yeah...should all be in the manual but essentially you have to decide which out you want each pad to go out of....

Don't forget to keep you assigning consistent over all programs so your kicks are always through the same output, snares through another, hats through another etc.

hmmm . . . i don't have one of these yet but im curious . . . can you assign multiple pads to the same out? and i assume you can assign tracks as well?

percussion and samples is use the main outs instead of 5&^ so i can individually pan stuff...

bass- 7

noises/efx/samples which need further routing- out 8.....

think in instruments and sounds rather than tracks.....

Yes. Say you have samples of three seperate chord stabs from the same instrument, you'd have those on different pads but you'd probably want them coming out of the same output. Alternately, you might have a sound like a clap that you want to be heavily reverbed on beat 4 of every 4th bar but dry for the rest of the pattern. So you would assign the same sound to two different pads & each one to a different output, one going through the reverb & the other not.

Before I had the 8 outputs board I used to put deeper sounds panned hard left & brighter sounds hard right to use the stereo output like two seperate mono outs.

No....because if you think about it, tracks are about midi notes & channels etc. You might have a synth on midi channel 5A on track 1, & another synth on track 2. It might not be until track 5 that you start to use any internal samples from the MPC....

word - I had always been thinking it was more about tracks, but the multiple pads setup makes more sense when i think about it - much more powerful . . .

you learn to stop worry about tracks and see tracks as collections of instruments...not the tracks on the mpc...therefore you could have 8 tracks dedicated to percussion but have all the pads being used coming out of just one out if needed....

8 outs is essential..say you have a few of tutors packs....a bass set, the keys and some drums...now if you wanna tweak any of those sounds in terms of efx, eq, compression you'll end up effecting the whole lot if you dont separate them...want the drums to cut through but not effect the mellow keys- with the 8 outs you can...want the bass deeper but dont wanna flab up the drums- with the 8 outs you can.....want to bring some rotary on your keys without cocking up your drums or bass....

So you can still use the 2 stereo outs simultaneously with the 8-out expander? I didn't think you could.
