cf card reader problem need help

i bought a cf card reader for about three weeks ago and everything worked fine until today. when im tryin to open a folder on the mpc it hangs up and an error comes up (error at 0000:CB3C) what does that mean? and i bought new cf cards yesterday does the cards r the wrong ones? (scandisk extreme 1 gig) please help

what happens when you format the card on the mpc... then try to copy data to the card?

i format the cf cards on mpc and after loading up the samples it still not working! what could be the problem? i got two scandisk 1gig III and one 2gig scandisk II r they working with the mpc? or is there something wrong with the power cables??please help

i got 8 folders on a disk is that to much? could this be the problem

I see that you are quite bothered by the problem so I will try and help a little bit.


OK, so you start the mpc with the card in the slot. you go and format it... what happens? what does the screen say? does it format the card?

then, once the card is formatted... you will notice that the card is empty. what do you do after that? are you taking the card out of the mpc and saving files on it using your computer?

Next, what power cables do you think could have a problem? I mean you are able to format the card right? so that means the CF drive is working... right?



now here is my main question:

what model MPC are you using? is it the mpc2000 or the mpc2000xl?

because from what I hear, you can not take a card or a floppy disk from the mpc2000 classic and put it into the computer or else it wont work again when you put it back in the mpc.... I believe there is some sort of program you might be able to get that will fix the problem but I am not 100% sure.

thanks buddy, i got a mpc 2000xl!! i can format the cards on the mpc thats no problem. i turn off the mpc and take out the cf card. after that i insert the cf card into my usb card reader that thing is on my laptop and put my samples on it. i put it back into the mpc turn it on and everytime when im browsing the samples the mpc hangs up....but yeah it can't be the power cables because formatting on mpc is works fine..and what do you mean with programms?

oh never mind about the program bit then, since you have an mpc2000xl.

ok, try this:


format the card again on the mpc. then go and sample stuff on the mpc (dont load anything from the card or any of that.. just keep the card in the mpc.) sample some random thing and save the sound to your card.

now turn off the mpc and turn it back on... try loading that sample. what happens?


and what do you mean "it hangs up" ?

lol hangs up sounds stupid i mean nothing moves on mpc i have to turn mpc off and on! but i tried it with 3 folders on a card and it works. does that mean some files r broke or something... thats real strange...

hey, just to make sure....

check the folder and file names. make sure they are not more then 8 characters long.

for example:

you shouldnt name files "big_snare" but instead make it "big_snar"




also... what mpc OS are you using? version 1.14 or version 1.20?

the version 1.20 is designed for card readers... you shouldn't use version 1.20 if you are using zip or floppy.

try updating the OS if that is the case.

the card reader is working now!!! thanks again hehe but some files are not loading up they are 16bit 44.1khz so thats might not be the problem and the file names are not longer then 8 shift i have downloaded a few drum kits some work and some not what could be the problem? files corrupt? and how do i know which wave files are corrupt and which are working because all drum kits working on laptop! do i need a programm to create sample disks? i hope thats not to many questions
