From sonicstate.com review section:

"Beware of this machine !! It sounds good on paper but in actual use it is far from the praise it is getting. It has been noted on the MPC1k forum (www.mpc-forums.com)that this unit has a nasty bug causing it to randomly drop notes from sequences, corrupts samples, timing goes off and perform other very annoying audio/sequencing glitches. Akai seems very unresponsive towards this, the almost unexisting updates do not fix these issues. Other issues not often mentioned: there is no zone slicing like on the 2000xl, no timestretching either. Overall construction is very cheap, many MPC1K have uneven pad sensitivity.
Don't get me wrong, i love the MPC series, and really wanted this product to succeed cuz its small and has usb, but this one just doesnt live up to the standard set by the rest of the family."

I put in a reply, basically saying he should read the forums here a little more carefully... does he even own one? Anyway, sonicstate deleated my post. I love this site and it just angers me when someone makes bad references to it...

hey WHAT are you bugging out for?????

have you not noticed the hundreds of posts on this site discussing all of the issues that sonicstate mentioned???? its not like the reveiwer on sonicstate was making up all these problems with the 1000. THEY EXIST! and the more bad press that is out there, the more likely akai will try and address them. otherwise, as long as people keep blindly buying the 1000, akai is gonna sit on their ass and collect as much money as they can.

i applaud that reviewer for showing their readers the bad side of the 1000, instead of just copying and pasting all the glowing reviews that every other site gives.

...and in no way do i think that review was making a bad reference to mpc-forums.com. i just think it was an accurate review of this machine. every other review i've seen say it is awesome and that its up to par to the other mpc's. but no one wants to say the truth like that guy. i've never even been to sonicstate before now, and it makes me EXTREMELY happy that someone is listing the real faults with this machine.

and you know, i do love my 1000. but there are a bunch of bugs and limitations (no easy movement of single events in step edit, no zoning, etc....) that if i was aware of before i bought i might have held off. but now i am just trying to make the best of the situation akai has put me in.

anytime i come across a user review site of the 1000 i try and post whatever faults it has, and i suggest everyone else do that too.

akai will pay WAY more attention to the bad press it gets, rather than paying attention to the emails of users who have already given their money to akai.

someone should email keyboard, remix, SOS magazines to bring this to a wider audience, then akai will have to address it.

I know, I got a little worked up. But you have to admit it gives the impression that akai is not addressing the issues this board has mentioned to them... I was just pissed they deleated my post. I will go be happy now...

They have been addressing issues - like the click at the end of the samples. Not quickly enough, I agree, and there is still more to do. The "sample dropping" question has been asked before, some folks see it all the time, some never do. Only now are we seeing a consensus (in the other 7-page thread) about how to replicate the issue, give Akai something to get their teeth in to.
But to call the construction shoddy? Only if previous MPCs were built like Bentleys, which I'm in no position to comment on.

As for the folks on this here forum, who own and use the MPC1000 ... do you think they will read what you write and say "Oh! I was blind! It is a piece of shit after all!"

No, but this may put some pressure on Akai to, i don't know, work faster and harder. Someone said that they only have like five programmers. If this is true, maybe they should hire a few more people. God knows there are TONS of people needing jobs out there.

I dont think its a piece of poo, by the way.

so is there a way to put pressure on AKAI?

Well, I know that Akai USA are responding to email (see the MemoryX thread): [email protected] . Email to Akai Japan isn't so reliable.
But if you write to Akai, please keep the following in mind:
These are the tech support guys. They are not the developers, and it might be hard for them to even influence the developers. They aren't even in the same country.
They want to help, but they are not responsible for the situation.
They are people too! They might even be as pissed (off) about it as we are. Don't mail-bomb them or fly off the handle, or they will just dismiss you as not worth the trouble. Keep it real!

I know what I'm talking about, since I work senior tech support for a totally different company...

I wrote that Sonicstate review...

"stereoid" you must be working for Akai, if not, your plain stupid and totally missed the point i was making. Everything I said in that review is the dirty truth that nobody dares to say out loud because they are insecure of their investment. Thing is, it is by saying these issues out loud, even dissing Akai, that it will get their attention to do something about this machine. In the other thread, Akai apparantly responded to a user that they do not read this forum, hopefully they monitor Sonicstate as it is a bigger commercial site that links straight to the sale of their products.

And for your information, Ive been a MPC user since the 60. Those were the good old days (roger linn is the man, he kept updating the OS 10 years after the machine was out of production, adding crazy features like double sample time etc..). I already got stiffed with the 2000, had to sell it to get the XL, even though a simple OS update would have easily given it zoning and other software features. I know how Akai thinks, and if everybody sits back and smiles at them, telling them how great and perfect this product is, then you can be sure youll never get those features fixed, you'll just be giving them a nice wishlist for the MPC1000XL.

If you want to be angry at someone, be angry at Akai.

sorry "stereoid" i meant to address my post to "filterthing"

One other note on some of you that seem to feel like Akai will dismiss our negative voicing about the unit. I strongly believe it is the opposite. If bad reviews like the one I wrote keep coming up, I GARANTEE you that it will have an impact on sales. People dont trust sales reps blindly anymore, they go on the internet and do their homework. Issues like the note drop out and no zoning are BIG drawbacks when you look at competition, and implementing such fixes/features would probably not be that hard. I encourage all of you that have issues with your gear (be it any kind) to voice your opinion as loud and clear as possible.

steroid: i see what you are saying about the tech guys being only support staff and not the development guys. regardless, they are the only avenue we have to complain so while i'm not gonna mail bomb i'm gonna keep emailing them.

i am in the middle of going back and forth via email with them about not being able to move events in step edit. i'll post the whole conversation when it seems like they aren't going to respond to me. for now half of their responses seem like they are copying and pasting standard mindless responses, and the other half are actually written by a human being.

in either case i'm going to keep contacting them until the bitter end. not being obnoxious mind you, but i just can't sit here and hope that they might possibly address issues one day in the future.

digiblog: much respect on the sonicstate review. everything you wrote was pretty much on point. the only way akai is going to act on anything is if they think sales of the 1000 will be affected. you saw how once word got around about the clicks in samples they jumped right on it. if for more proffesional review sites gave a true review of the faults with this machine, you can bet akai would rush to address whatever issues they could in an os update immediately.

i've already begun posting what i think are fair reviews (highlighting the skectchy aspects of the 1000) on whatever user review sites i find. i highly suggest people do the same if they want any type of progress from akai.

peace.
