Cant connect MPC500 to Novation Xstation via midi

Hi ALL

I am a total noob so please forgive my lack of knowledge and stupidness!!!

I have been knocking my head against a wall for the last week and could really do with some help guys, decided to delve into a litttle recording so got myself an MPC500 and novation Xstation and last week.

I am trying to connect the MPC to the x station and use the sounds from the x station on the pads with the sounds coming out of the x station and not the mpc............ is this possible?

Basically I would like to connect them up and play some cool live sessions but after reading the manuals back to back Im lost, stuck and serioously confused..........

where the Akai pro guy uses a 2500 and a virus and I though MPC and a sound module, cant be that hard..........

I hope that I have made it a little clearer, if not let me know, sorry about this, I am an annoying noob after all.
