MPC 1000 for $550 but its stripped. Should I do it?

I have a chance to get a 1000 in black (supposedly the pads are in good working order) but its stripped. Base model only so, no JJ OS, no internal mount or HD? I am just figuring that those are automatic needed upgrades right out of the gate. So, I am wondering if this is a good deal or not? I figure an 80 GB HD and mount is $140? and the OS is $50? so that puts me at about $740-750 at that point. Would I need anything else to get going? I sold my 2KXL so I am deliberating between this 1000 or holding out for a 2500 at hopefully no more than 12-1300 with the same maxed stuff (although I would also like a CDR on that 2500 at that price). Let me know what you guys think. Appreciate it as I am supposed to tell this guy whats up within the next 24-48 hours tops. Peace.

i would make sure that it at least has the new pads. you dont really need an 80 gb hd. i have a 60 in mine and its been 2 years and im no where near filling it up. i probably could have done with 40gb. the hd adapter is like $10 if i remember, and jjos is $50 now? i didnt know that, but that and the had will have you around $600. the pads are the killer because they are close to $200, which would bring you to $800. if thats the case, i would save $200 more and get a new one, with the pads and a warranty.

I don't know if stripped is the correct word, the MPC1000 doesn't comes with the hard drive to begin with.

Maybe you meant "Stock" ?

Stripped would imply some standard stuff that is necessary for it to work has been taken out like the CF reader, RAM, Buttons, or PC Board.

but you could get one fully upgraded with new pads and a hard drive etc for around that price (give or take 50 dollars)

Yeah, its stock, I used stripped since I know these upgrades are necessary to me. When you say I could get one with all that you mentioned for close to that price what price are you referring to? 550? or 800?

if its the newer black model and had new pads (there was a black model with old pads as well) then then yea its not a bad deal. THe upgrades arent too critical right now. WIth exception to the JJos you dont have to stress too much about the HD up front.

Oh, and for the record, the MPC is less than a year old, 8-9 months he said, so based on that can it be surmised it has the new pads? He says it has had no pad issues at all.

you can't tell if it has new pads based on the age....

I think the only sure way is if it is a BKN and not a BK model. The later BK's did have the updated pads.

Ask him to push a pad from side to side and see if the other pads move. If nothing moves then it is probably the old single style pads, if they do move then it is likely to be the newer sheet style pads. The upgrade is $180, and while not necessary something worth considering if you don't have them.

I agree. You don't necessarily need the new style pads, but if you're already spending that much, you might as well get a brand new one.

I decided to stay away from the 1000 at this point (as of today, who knows I could change my mind). I think I am gonna shoot for the 2500 since it seems more along the lines of the 2KXL which I gave away. Thanks for your input, you helped me make this decision (by putting indecision in my mind!)...haha. But seriously, I guess I just figured on too many upgrades/possible problems from the start and I really want a 2500 (just not as easy to afford). Hell, the MPK 49 got such great reviews, I am even starting to consider that and scrapping the MP idea alltogether (doubtful, highly doubtful).

I got a 1gb cf card and 16mb ram and im doing fine...id love a ram upgrade but have no desire for a hd upgrade considering you can link up to the comp easily(under one minute to upload/download) and my mac has 160gb hd

i bought mine back when the 1000 was 1000 new for $650 so $550 now thats it 1200 seems good to me, but hope you got the new pads
