For all MPCs (I believe):

There is no MIDI Dump facility per se. MPCs do not store internal data in SYSEX format. So in order to replicate settings, you have to save MPC-format files, viz: PGM, ALL, SEQ, etc. Note that these will not transfer 100% compatible between 2kxl and 1k.

MPCs CAN, however, record SYSEX information transmitted during a MIDI Dump operation on an external synth. For instance, you can save a SEQ setup from a Triton (which is the file where you'd assign each track a program, level, FX sends, panning, etc) to the MPC via MIDI Dump, even though the MPC can not read native Triton files.

Receiving MIDI Dumps is easy:

Set the MPC to an empty sequence and turn off the Loop feature. This will ensure any data transmitted will retain its sequential order and not record on top of itself when the MPC loops.

Locate the Dump X feature on your synth, where X is the specific data you're trying to save to MPC. (such as seq data on the Triton)

Hit record on the MPC and initiate the dump from the synth. When the synth's "Progress" type screen finishes, hit Stop on the MPC. You've now got a byte-accurate copy of the synth's settings stored on the MPC, which you can transmit back to the synth quite easily as well:

Find the Receive X MIDI Dump feature on the synth, again where X is the specific data being received.

Initiate the Receive function, which will place the synth in ready mode.

Hit play on the sequence saved with the SYSEX data on it. When the seq finishes, the Receiving screen will clear from the synth and your data will be restored.

If you like, combine SYSEX seqs with your actual song sequences by adding them together in SONG mode on the MPC.

Peace,
-tank.

JUST THINKING, COULD I NOT MIDI THE MPCS TOGETHER AND RUN THE XL AND RUN IT AS A SLAVE AND THE1K RECORD THE OUT INFO.
OR IS THAT REAL STUPID

that might work, but it depends on how much info in your sequence is related to internal settings for pads, filters & what not. That's what's not compatible.
