That's what OSes do! It's what they're for!

I know that, the difference is how the background programs utilize processing power. Mac is notorious for just that, because it just opens a program, decides how much cache it needs, and uses it. Microsoft gets confused as what to run when, and that leads to crashing and lost connections. Now wasn't Aksys designed for the 4000, which had an actual usb interfacing port and not just a mass storage controller? if dudes are using Aksys on anything else besides a 4000, i could understand why you're losing connections. Those machines weren't designed for that.

Ak.Sys's USB driver for windows is SHITE, and the reason it is shite is because AKAI DID NOT TEST IT PROPERLY.

Anyone who bought an MPC4000 in 2002 and followed the farcical progress of the OS knows how bad Akai Unprofessional's software testing was.

Jeez, remember the debacle with OS 1.50 and the "MIDI PORTS FULL!!!!!!!" thing It was like they never ran their code ONCE before building and releasing.

I know one thing that pisses me the **** off. Try to load a sample with a long name from your computer's hard drive. that shit will crash every time on the 4k its self it converts the name to fit the max amount of characters it can process. you have to change the name of the sample by hand in order to load it into aksys

feline1 I'm sure you've done this but I thought I'd write it in here anyways, incase you havent or that it might help someone else.

I had MASSIVE problems with AK.SYS - dropping out, freezing, random shutting down, you name it.

I tried many many things, nothing worked. Then I did a reformat of my hd in the 4k, using its internal format utility, with the latest OS. The drive had been formatted with an older OS, not sure which but definately under 1.50 somewhere. After I did this the AK.SYS problems practically went away. I can transfer huge amount of data now and sure, it does happen that it loses the connection but its no where near the old amount. Probably 99 of 100 of the old AK.SYS bugs are gone for me.

Dont know how the format process have anything to do with the usb driver, or the ak.sys software but it DEFINATELY changed shit for me.

Yeah, I remember having the same benefits a year or two ago,
but it didn't last.......

Well that sucks. I hope that doesnt happen to me.
