poly/mono question

i have some pads set to drum sounds, and some pads have samples on them

so i recorded a simple drum beat, and i want to play the sample notes live over the beat

i have it set on mono so that my samples don't "sing" over each other; i want them to cut each other off

but since it's on mono, the drum notes cut off the samples

is there a way i can set certain pads to poly, and others to mono? or is there a way i can make my drum beat like a background beat, kind of acting like a metronome, so that it doesn't effect what i layer over it?

mute groups will allow you to cut sounds off with other sounds.

you can also make a new program to separate the sounds from cutting each other.

yeah i think it's easiest for you to make a new program. Have all your sample hits on one program, and your drums on another program.

The same screen where you change the whole program to poly/mono has the option of changing the individual pad to poly/mono

You can set the whole program on the top right of the Params screen. Or an individual pad in the middle of the params screen. Or you can set up the mute groups exactly how you want them.

But yeah. Put your drums and your samples on seperate programs. why not? its not like you have a shortage of programs to work with?

thanks for the help everyone... forgive me if my questions are simple, as i just got my machine a couple days ago...

so i put them on different programs, drums on one program, samples on another program, recorded it, but when i play it back i can only hear one program at a time. it's not set on mute or solo. how can i fix that?

how do i set certain pads to mono/poly? i have JJOS2XL if that makes a difference in how my screen looks.. i know my screen is a little different than my friend's

etc...

you have to select which program you want to use for each track

as far as mono/poly......

it can all be done in the program/Params section.

read the manual about poly/mono. very clearly written in there.

or go to akais site and read the manual online.

put it beside the sh!tter if you have to.
