FL Studio

Why I use it
Because it works for me. And there's one thing on it I really like - the FPC. I rarely use the step sequencer. I've tried using REAPER + ReaSamplomatic for drums, and succeeded in setting it up, but it just didn't feel right. NI Battery was slow. I was going to demo POISE + REAPER, but by then, I was tired of trying "REAPER + [Drum Sampler]" combos, lol. I also demoed Reason, but no VST's, what the?

FPC from a (former) MPC user's perspective
On the FPC you can:
1. Use whatever controller you want.
2. Set the samples to play 'Mono' like the MPC.
3. Set it to play 'Full Level' or Velocity Sensitive.
4. Mute / Solo pads. (You can control this via MIDI, too.)
5. Layer more than four sounds on each pad. (Don't really care about this though.)
6. Tune your samples up / down using semi-tones. (All at the same time or individually.)

Finally, words cannot describe how important this feature is to me :
7. You can route each pad to it's own channel in the mixer. (Render all mixer tracks to .wavs, anyone?)

The MPC does not have enough outs, despite it's cost versus FL Studio:

The FPC was definitely one of my 'secrets'. If you are thinking about getting an MPC, and are concerned about price, go software! Lol, I'm trying to save you! If you wanted that MPC sound couldn't you just get...... an Akai rack or no?

Disclaimer: I'm not saying everything else sucks, but only that this works very well for what I want to do. Ableton Live and Logic can definitely do these type of things (and / or more) very well, if not better. And I don't use Live because I'm used to FL.

Also, slicex does the same thing, just right click a slice and select an output. I'm using slicex because i dont care about layering either

I got a SP1200 Kit for the FPC all nicely setup in a project file...let me know if you want me to upload it.

i mess with fl studio. what controller are you using for the fpc doglamp?

I've heard of this FPC but I never knew it was so versatile, good stuff.....I'm glad this works for you. Really,...it doesn't really matter what you use, as long as it gets the job done. So are you Re-wiring FL to Live? Does Live even support Re-wire?

@Upright: Thanks and no I'm not ReWiring to Live, but I've tried with the demo. It's definitely supported. http://www.ableton.com/pages/rewire/fru ... s_studio_6 . Each time I ReWired FL (with REAPER / Live) the first beat or note is always missing, so I think it's Imageline's fault. Although you can get around this by moving all the patterns in the sequencer ahead by 1 bar.

@Sinamatik: Which ever one suits your needs or wants? Faders aren't really important to me so I would get the 18 / 24 and 16 if you don't have Vista. I had the 32 because I couldn't control my gear lust.

I routed the Metronome to it's own insert because that thing gets louder than your music!


The colorway looks like the MPC forums. The MIDI notes are what I use; you'll need to change it to what suits you.

i used FL for a bit... but after a few weeks i got real bored and at the end of it all it made me completely forget my ear and hand coordination...

i didnt use FPC tho... i used the Edison (i think is what its called) to chop then i just dumped it into FL Slicer (not sure about the name) and laid it out like that...

then i got on Logic (bootleg copy) loved it.... and now im back on the MPC (XL)... Struggling, because im use to having EVERYTHING right there on one big screen...


jumping back and forth i came to the conclusion that... Software spoils you, Hardware give you just enough... i like the challenge, even if i fail at it (mpc 60... hated it)

Definitely. It's cheaper + more features, but imo it depends on the person. Because some people are lazy to learn those features.

Ok heres the sp1200 kit i've got for the FPC...ive zipped it and put a project file in there as well as a FPC preset file....the samples are mapped from C5 - D#6 coz i use my midi keyboard in FL as a controller.

Ohh yeah...some nxt dude made this originally...ive just mapped the pads and assigned them to the mixer.

I like fruity loops especially cos you can make something really fast. It's just perfect to play around with samples. Sure the result most of the time isn't that good but all the ideas you get from playing around with it are worth alot!
