i would definetly get a mac, but i would definetly not get an mbox. they have that shit buzzing sound problem all day. my friend just got an mbox mini and his whole left channel output just stopped working after 2 or 3 months. and my other friends mbox 2 has the buzzing sound too, to the point where he cant record with it anymore.
i would suggest logic 8, or if you reallly wana go the pt route, get m powered, its a little bit more expensive but i have had my 410 for about a 2 years with no regrets. except the mic pre-amps are really low quality on it, but that might be becuase im used to using a professional 40 channel oram board and a radar 24 multi-track going through an avalon mic pre going throu an 1176 at my school. also, in regaurd to the mic-pre's being shit quality, that was when i plugged in a 4050 for the first time and recorded some vocals, the mic-pre's are fine if your just recording a sample, i do this all the time with no problems.
im going to do an A, B comparison of the 2 when i get back to school in july, in the same room as our studio is at.
if you wana go the logic route, there is a million possibilities for an audio interface, the duet is like 400 or 500 and it has what i would consider professinal a/d conversion, but no midi, so you would have to get a midi interface to go with it they run like 80 dollars. but then you would also have to factor in that you coudlent use pro tools with the apogee duet also.
the options are endless.
