punarnee wrote:Hey people. Really getting into Ableton and have come across a slight problem. I am using my mpc 1000 hooked up via midi to ab7 to play samples and cuts of samples from ableton. Now my problem is that when i assign a midi chop to the mpc the sample isnt assigned properly on the mpc pads in order..its ok till pad 4 when it has no sample assigned on it.

My question is how to i chop a sample and have it playable over 16pads in order.

Many thanks for your help on this.

Sounds like you may need to change the midi note order,....you can do this under Mode>Program>F4(Notes)(may not be f4 on the Mpc 1000 not sure). You'll have to manually rearrange the notes. After you rearrange them save this rearranged program on a Compact flash card so you'll have it for future reference. Call the Program "Notes" as an example....you may be able to save it to your internal ram and turn auto load on, so every time you power on your mpc this program will load. Hope this helps. :D

live's like the dude at the job interview that looks a bit plain and simple, nobody expects to get it, yet ends up ceo by the weekend.

its super simple looking, yet nearly anythings possible, and usually in an unbelievably simple way - with hardly any difficult steps to do it. with midi and audio almost seamlessly similar in integration, sound qualities really slinky.

blah blah, love it.

for jamming simple cuts up in a rough clip way. or producing full track laden DAW land architecture.

i tired to use it...

but i had real problem sequencing with it... main getting a drum loop going the end would always be too short and the loop would start over again...

everything i got the hang of... sampling, fx, routing.... but could never get a song rolling...

when i got in grid and set the loop length.. it wouldn't record my 1st kick... like it was all ways a click off...

then i would go into grid mode to adjust it... but then i would end up moving the length of the loops and the whole drum kit would be out of beat....

just mainly sequencing problem... im reinstalling it right now to try it out again...

are there any vid on how to sequence and set loops in Ableton???

there are some good vids on youtube, look for bboyspaz. IIRC he's done some stuff on looping and warps, which sounds to me like your problem?

Hi, im new to Ableton Live (i have the .8 version) and i want to know if there's any way to make a MPC 2000xl to change a sequence when i change a scene in Ableton or viceversa. I've tried making the MPC to send a CC at the beginning of a sequence and link it to a scene, but when i change the sequence i have to wait 1 bar for the scene to change (i also tried with Legato but without any luck). I also want to know if the MPC can send a midi message when it changes his sequence... Thanks in advance and sorry for my English!

PD: I've tried searching in the forum and found a topic about it, but with no working solutions...

here's the full laydown on how to MIDI sync your mpc 1000/2500 with ableton live:

MIDI CONNECTION & SETUP IN THE MPC OS/ABLETON

connect the mpc midi out to the midi in of your interface.
the main outs to your interface's audio input
(not necessesary for syncing, but you'll need it later for finetuning)

go to the SYNC Menu (MODE + PAD 9 then F2)
and set it up like this:

Sync out: A MASTER
Mode: MIDI TIME CLOCK
Framerate: 30
send MMC: ON

your mpc sends out mtc and mmc now

Start Ableton Live and go to
OPTIONS > PREFERENCES > MIDI/SYNC

set the SYNC button of your Midi ports midi input to ON
Set the Type to MIDI TIMECODE
Set the Midi Time code rate to SMPT 30 FPS NON DROP

Activate the EXT button on top, next to the BPM display for setting
Live into External Sync Mode.
Also activate the button with the black and white dot (that's Live's Metronome).

Start your empeecee in Overdub Mode (OVER DUB + PLAY)
The empeecee and Live should now start playing.
If everything is fine, you should hear the two metronomes sound
running

Should you hear the two Metronomes Sounds running not perfectly in Sync,

Try to fine tune that, play around with the MIDI SYNC DELAY until both are in complete Sync. (mine runs at -25.5 ms, for example, but that may differ...)

Another Possibility would be exact setup of your audio latency compensation. there is a lesson in lives help covering correct setup.
do that, if needed.

Congrats, you did it.

Now live is running in sync with your empeecee and you can control Live's
sequencer controls (play, stop, ff,....) with the controls of your mpc.

you can also send midi data from the mpc to virtual instruments loaded up
in live.

All that funky vsti's controlled and sequenced with intuitive"hands on"-style
of the empeecee, isn't this lovely...

From this point on, you might be interested in

CONTROLLING MULTIPLE VSTis IN ABLETON WITH THE MPC

On your mpc, set your TRACK setting from DRUM to MIDI and set your MIDI output from NONE to, e.g. 1A.

I saved a .PGM file where every track uses a different midi channel so i can send 16 (32, if you use your second midi out) channels of midi data.

In Ableton Live, click on the small black button labeled "I.O"
Its next to the Master output fader on the right side.
Now your Input and Output routings appear.

Now, create some midi channels in Live (CTRL+SHIFT+T).
There are four knobs:

MIDI FROM: select the midi interface where you plugged your MPC in.

CHANNEL: select your Desired channel, Either All or 1 to 16

MONITOR:
IN: will playback all the time
AUTO: will playback only if the channel is set to record
OFF: no playback at all

Set your channels correct and then, the mpc will use live as one big rack.
you can push your pads and have the mpc feel and groove, but you will be able to mix down and process nicely in live using plugins & stuff.

have fun with that.

greetz,

satoyo

STAN - feel free to copy & paste this into your upcoming manual. ;)
gotta send him an email tho

So i do all this...But I have two issues...

Each time I open Live I have to adjust the settings to get the metronomes to match

Problem two... I add a drum rack, slap in some samples and then hit overdub & play on the MPC and the drum rack goes mental playing its own random patterns...

What am I doing wrong????

I'm a mpc user and just made the switch to ableton I love the work flow and sound. Also not having to track stuff out is a big plus. Ableton is sooo dope. the ONLY thing I dont like is the sequencer. I mean its fine but im still used to the MPC sequencer which is the best in the world. But im willing to make the sacrifice in order to have all the extra features..
