Has anyone heard if it will come in a future update? I think it´s mandatory.

+1

What are some ways you guys use sidechain compression? Do you guys track out your sounds separately? Anybody resample with the compression added?

what do you need sidechain compression for?
just make a LFO (triangle or saw down / affecting amplitude) for what you like to hear "sidechained"

Question, does that only apply to synth patches? What if you have a loop where you want to tame more than the first bar? Do you just Chop?

db audioware make a pretty good Sidechain Compressor VST which I really like.

I sometimes add my kick drum as the input key to create some space on other tracks in the mix.

Sidechain compression has already been submitted as an MPC5000 feature request on the Akai tracker a couple of times already - don't know if it'll ever happen though.

Here's a little video from the db audioware website:-

It's fast and really easy to use - there's a demo version you can download and try.

I take it you track out your sounds separately on a daw?

Yeah - I do all of my tracking and final mixdown on Sonar 8.3 on a Quad Core PC.

Although I'm still very tempted by the Open Labs NeKo LX5 - that's kinda WOW! :P

Lemme pick your brain for a minute. How do you get around tracking your mpc outs separately and not losing the swing?

I'm after the access virus myself, can't wait!

Yeah, I tend to record short musical phrases on the MPC, then track those as audio across to the DAW into my arrangement.

I have the MPC audio outs going into a desk which then goes into the audio inputs of my Motif XS. Then it hops over firewire cable from my mLan card into my PC.

The arrangment and mixes are then sequenced in Sonar, I don't so much use the MPC's sequencer as the master so syncing is not an issue for me.

I did read about the 'sync issues' that a few people are having when tracking to a DAW, but I don't use my MPC in that way.

i take it that those sync issues are still happening - I read a few comments regarding sync drift?

Ahhh ok, I was looking at other ways to skin a cat. Yeah theres some sync drift when dealing with midi time code and midi clock. You can fix it with delay compensation, nudging, buffer settings, and the quality of your audio drivers for your sound card.

What happened to zzz?

There is a way of doing a poor mans sidechain compression within the box... it was posted on the mpc website a bit ago.

There is also a tutorial on how to sync the MPC with different Sequencers...

I recommend you get on the akai mailing list for some great newsletters.

Good post, I just registered. I'm gonna try the outboard compression back to the hd tracks. I wonder if there's a noticable latency? Also try ghost kicks...and the Lakers just won! Smith was on the ground crying.LOL Allright back to music.

let us know how that goes I have not tried it myself.
