7 Years Later... How is she holding up?

after 7 years of use, how is your mpc holding up?

please state weather you bought it new or used, and how many previous owners.

I don't have one right now.
When I sold mine it was fours years old and still running strong.

I got mine new in August 2002.

It is still basically OK, the only dodgy things are:
- Pad Bank B button doesn't always respond
- the Jog Wheel has a lot of "backlash" - i.e. when I let it go, it will often nudge back one value from the one I had turned it to.

i have had my 4000 for about 3-4 years. one previous owner.
i have had to replace the hard drive and the jog wheel ( i also had the backlash! )
apart from that it has been perfect!!!

did replacing the jog wheel require any soldering?

Great so far. I had to replace one pad contact (Kick drum bangin to hard he, he) and main, seq edit, and step edit keys a year ago but everything else great the original og white from 2003 I think i forget when I traded in my 2xl. And still learning new things on it.

Of yeah new straight from Ishibashi Music Shibuya deliver straight to the house!!!!

Got the white one used in 04 second owner. Had to get the jog wheel
encoder replaced same thing jumping parameters. Replaced the hard drive on the advise of
forat desk stars are know to fail. Now thinking of going solid state paranoid about heat from HD. Stop button starting to fail may be hitting it too hard.

Yes I'm pretty sure it needs to be soldered.

I've had mine for about a year. Before then, I used the 2000 XL. I'm still loving the MPC 4000 as it's the the fastest and most efficient way for me to lay down ideas and songs to date. Honestly, if I was given one thing that I could change about it, and only one thing....... it would be to allow it to have at least 128 note polyphony or preferably above that, I can deal with any of the other 'quirks'. Of course, there are many other things that would be hot, but I really think that the 4000 is still the most user-friendly, musically-inspirational programming device to date as far as pro music is concerned and I love Logic, DP6, Protools, Abelton, Nuendo, Sequoia, Reason and all of the other DAW related programs. Along with the MPC, they are great. --- Reub.

yes. but it was very painless! haha

got one 04 one
bought it new
still nog problems
had to clean the contacts once
my other 4k's got more problems
dodgy pad sensor etc.

bought mine off of eBay in Jan. 04 its cool just the **** Transport buttons need replacing but thats it

Hey fam..
Bought the classic white back in '03.Everything was cool til last year..In some months i got 4 keys broken (TRACK MUTE/OVERDUB/PLAYSTART/MAIN) plus pad 09 doesn't respond anymore.Other than that,she's still standing strong (thanx to the QWERTY usb keyboard,i don't count other broken keys lol).

BTW would be necessary to replace the entire pad sensor thing or can do sth for pad 09 only?

2000xl got it used in 06' use it every day .not a problem yet ,still looks like its fresh out the box too!would never sell or use anything else either
