my1k: "Anyone else who has a song that does it may want to send it too. "

The actual problem about this bug is, that it comes in randomly. so one can't say, it happens if you do this or that.
else we're not talking about the same thing or you're doing something wrong. that's why i don't see the use of showing akai a song where it happens.
i am trying to encircle this bug, but all i can say till now is, that it happens about two times in a hour. (counted yesterday) :) and that i only notice it using long samples.
if one could say exactly when the problem occurs it would be no problem for akai to fix it. and they wouldn't be saying that they don't know what we are talking about.

True about the bug happening "seemingly" at random...but if *we* do a little effort (I know, Akai should be doing this) and tell akai exactly the problem, it will speed their effort along.

One of the most difficult things to debug/fix are random problems that can't be recreated on demand. Something we might try to do is create some bomb sequence that brings the MPC to it's knees, and re-creates the problem almost every time. THAT would get you a fix from akai very quickly.

The last OS update occurred when someone specifically identified the problem, and notified Akai about it...notice how quickly they responded with the fix (less than a week!!)? The more info we can give them about what the problem IS, the more quickly they can fix it.

Or..why dont we just do like terrorists do,

Kidnap a Guitar Center sales rep and threaten to behead his favourite doll if AKAi wont respond to our demands!!!

But ur right. Bad idea. We should kidnap an AKAI tech guy or smthing.

Just tryin to be funny. Wont make it to Comedy Central thats for shure tho HAHAHAHA PEACE 8)

I wish I could quote everything in this thread.

This shit is not on when I'm playing live. It happened once and the whole band just stopped and looked at me. Bit embarrassing. But **** - ya pay for a proffessional piece of equipment and when it doesn't perform like it should,, then compensation should be in order.

What the f*ck are AKAI doing about this anyway. Is it possible to fix with an OS update?

Concertmate what kind of band are you in?

I got a reply from Akai about this. Does anyone have poly maxed out when they are playing the song or sequence when you here the tracks cut out? I was maxing out my poly when my tracks were cutting out.

I dont know if any one is doing the same theing.

If not this sucks but I think the everything will be fixed, I have hope in this.

HipHop/Funk sorta shit. I play my MPC1K and guitar. Nother dude plays Bass synth (Yamaha SKII - old school analog bass, phat as shit) Nother dude on nother synth doin filler/efx, nother dude on trumpet, and lead vox out front. Fun stuff.

I'll double check if I am indeed maxing out the polyphony of the MPC - however I'm pretty sure it's happened to me with real simple shit before aswell. Thanx for the hot tip.

i guess this here is the bug thread although i know lot of you get pissed when people here are talking bad about this product. strange attitude, like if not talking about the evil it won't be there. anyway, theres one other bug that nobody mentioned till now:

when switching back from "note on" to "single shot" the sample often doesn't playback right. it just clicks. -> "F6 play" in the step editor. switching through some menus usualy fixes this problem... anyone else noticed this?

and about the polyphony. thats a lame excuse from akai. i would never play more than 32 samples at the same time. 'be hell of a noise... and i don't use chromatic programs either, the only way i see how to reach that limit.

OK, so what is the deal with knob automation? Has anyone else tried it?

I have a Yamaha MU80 sound module(cheezy, yes) that I sequence with the 1k. It understands CC#s, so I use my Phatboy knob controller to change paremeters. But if I record more than minimal knob tweaks to the sequencer, other (non mu80) tracks drop out for several bars, and in the worst case the tempo slows waaaay down.

I've resolved to not go crazy w/the knob automation, but I'm wondering if this is a MU80 problem, a 1k problem or what. My next purchase will probably be a synth module of some sort, and I'd like to know what's going on, because knobs are fun.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Are you kidding me i play close to 32 samples almost every time. It doesnt have to be at the same time either to max out your poly. Say you use a drum roll and your TC is 1/32 at the end of the first bar you probably maxed out your poly and a track cuts out. Its happen to me before.

But all in all this bug sucks wiener.

ok, then i understood polyphony wrong. i thought it was equal to a synth. that you can't play more than 32 notes -> samples at the same time. but then what is it? 32 samples in a bar? in a project, in the ram or what?

By elmacaco Sun Jul 25, 2004 5:50 pm
no, it's at the same time, polyphony is simultaneus notes, so if you have a loop that is still playing and 31 other notes also voiced at the same time, then anything over that will max it out.

By jksuperstar Sun Jul 25, 2004 9:39 pm
Polyphony is halved for stereo sounds also (ie- Left = 1 part, Right = 2nd part),

It was embarrassing for me to go back to Guitar Center twice to return a brand new product. They have not treated me the same since. I feel that this problem is absolutely retarded. They have been aware of it for a while and did not address it in their last OS update... something seems fishy here. You would also think that someone at Akai would be aware of this forum, probably the most comprehensive mpc resource. They are totally ignoring their customers. That is whack. I have been to many other "much smaller" yahoogroups for different instruments that have a representative or representatives from the respective company keeping people informed... the decent thing to do. Akai have been around for a long time and they have gained a good product reputation and a lousy customer service one. We all have the internet now and they can't be pulling the same **** anymore. Make sure that this thread stays at the top. Don't buy their **** until it works. Look at how fired up I am getting over a product I do not own and am not willing to support.
